AMES — In addition to announcing Iowa State’s recruiting class of 2012, head coach Paul Rhoads also addressed some program personnel decisions during his Wednesday press conference.

— Rhoads confirmed what an Iowa State press release stated on Tuesday, that Todd Sturdy had been named wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator.

In another coaching move, Rhoads confirmed rumors that former Cedar Rapids Jefferson head coach Jim Womochil had joined the program as a volunteer assistant.

“He’s already started up," said Rhoads. "We appreciate his efforts and when I say that, I mean volunteer. He is here giving his time and we don’t get the opportunity because of NCAA rules to pay him a dime.”

Rhoads also announced the addition of three new graduate assistants to the staff. Those men are: Kevin Bleil (Central Missouri), Derek Day (Western Kentucky) and Mike Conrad (West Texas A&M).

— Rhoads could not give a detailed report on the health of soon-to-be junior running back Shontrelle Johnson’s status, but he did have this to say.

"I know that his rehab is going sensationally well," said Rhoads. "He is already going back to the surgeon down in Dallas and they’ve already given him a thumbs up and he’s fairly active in our weight room right now but that decision is a long way off.”

— Along with a handful of other players, Iowa State did lose one running back from its roster on Wednesday. Due to a violation of team rules, freshman Duran Hollis is no longer with the program.

Along with Hollis, Rhoads announced that Donnie Jennert (WR), Teddy Lampkin (WR), Anthony Young (DB), Floyd Mattison (LB) and Jon Caspers (OL/DL) are no longer with the program.
