Rogers camps at and holds offer from Iowa State

By Chris Williams, CycloneFanatic.com Publisher

Iowa State held its junior/senior prospect camp on Sunday and one of the state’s top recruits was in attendance.

Charles Rogers, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound athlete out of Iowa City West high school, threw for 1,351 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior, but Iowa State appears to be recruiting him as a defensive back. That’s where he focused his time at on Sunday at least.

"I didn’t play much quarterback today," Rogers said. "I actually went into today as a primary defensive back. Coach (Bob) Elliott moved me around a little bit. I played some cornerback. He thought that I did pretty well and sees me in the future as a Cyclone defensive back, as a corner or a safety."

Rogers also ran for 689 yards and six touchdowns during his junior season. He is very open to playing defense in college.

"I will do whatever it takes to get me on the field," Rogers said." I’m not very picky."

Rogers did however see a few snaps at quarterback on Sunday.

"They actually paired me up with Grant Rohach, who is already committed there. We were talking about Iowa State a lot when we were throwing the ball around," Rogers said. "He told me to jump on board. That always happens."

Iowa State is currently the only school in America who has offered Rogers a scholarship at this point in time. Rogers said that he plans on camping at Northern Illinois on Wednesday of this week. He’ll stay in Iowa City for a camp with the University of Iowa next weekend.

"I will probably make my decision midway through my season, or even after it," Rogers said. "I want to keep everything open."

Iowa State wide receivers coach Courtney Messingham is currently acting as Rogers’ lead recruiter.

"He (Messingham) is probably one of the coolest guys I have talked to when it comes to recruiting," Rogers said. "The whole Iowa State staff is very straight forward. They speak the truth about everything."
