Cyclone Roundup: 5-17

By Chris Williams, CycloneFanatic.com Publisher

For being a Tuesday in mid-May, I’ve got a lot to get to in today’s roundup. Enjoy fanatics!

ROYCE SPEAKS OUT: Royce White is one heck of a good quote. CLICK HERE to read a recent Q&A that was conducted with White, courtesy of Cyclones.com. I found the following quote especially interesting/entertaining.

"I think we are going to shock a lot of people. Maybe some people don’t give us the credit we deserve because we are kind of the misfit bunch. I feel bad those other guys are getting tied in as misfits, because I am the real misfit. I think a lot of heat we are catching from that media-wise and what people are saying on the message boards and things like that is because of me. I am excited about playing with these guys. We are excited and we are hungry."

Think this guy has a chip on his shoulder?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: According to the @CycloneMBB Twitter feed, today is the birthday of two Cyclones, Scott Christopherson and Will Clyburn.

MCKNIGHT FINDS A HOME: Former Cyclone hoopster Eric McKnight has found a home. McKnight, who averaged 1.1 points and 0.6 rebounds per game as a freshman for Iowa State last season, will transfer to Florida Gulf Coast.

SCHOLARSHIP CHART: Yesterday, I posted this updated look at Iowa State’s men’s basketball scholarship situation, with some future recruiting analysis as well. In addition to that piece, I thought I’d post/link Kirk Haaland’s latest scholarship chart from enCYCLONEpedia.

2012 FOOTBALL COMMIT: CLICK HERE to read a quick blurb that I posted earlier today on Quan West, a 6-foot-4 Willis (Texas) wide receiver who committed to Iowa State on Monday night.

As of today, Iowa State has four known 2012 commitments, according to the database at Rivals.com.

Luke Knott – QB, Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Barkley Hill – RB, Cedar Falls, Iowa
Grant Rohach – QB, Moorpark, Calif.
Quan West – WR, Willis, Texas

As you can see above, the staff has a nice start to the class when it comes to offensive skill positions. Having said that, there’s obviously that chance that Luke Knott will end up on the defensive side of the football. I love the fact that West is a 6-foot-4 wide receiver. That position group really needs to add some size with this recruiting class and West’s big frame is a nice start.

YO ADRIAN? If you take a look at Iowa State’s latest roster update, you’ll see that linebacker Adrian Bennett is no longer on it. I’ll hopefully have more on this later in the week. If Bennett is no longer with the program though, that’s a substantial loss in my opinion. I know how highly many of the coaches felt about his ability and versatility going forward.
