Paul Shirley seems to me like a very smart guy who hated his alcoholic coach? Was there something else there that I missed?

Paul has spent a lot of time running down people that like sports. For someone who made money playing sports, he probably should not hate the fans of the sports.

Wasn't aware of he he was either. Couple things. if you can't grow a beard, don't try growing a beard. Stop taking pics of your outfits, you're not a women, and you look stupid. Furthermore or if you insist on doing so, make sure you own more than one watch, and more than one pair of shoes. Also, get a decent watch. You wear a "fashion watch" a Michael Kors at that. i wouldn't pay $5 for that. #powerfriday #imadousche #screenshotthisandpostittotwitter

I think the product on the field hurts recruiting more than the fans leaving

Thing is his buddies are the product on the field and everyone knows first rule of journalism is protect your buddies and make sure nobody puts any blame on them or says anything bad about them.

But definitely do use them for "insider" information and use them to break stories.

It seems to me that, in his mind, he's a big shot since he was on the team, even if he didn't play. He's the high school kid who thinks he's a big shot because he's friends with the starting QB. No, he's not the starting QB, but he's friends with him, you see, so you can trust that he's pretty in-the-loop.

Nothing more I can add to this. Spears is a DBag. He will forever be the punk yelling at us for not letting the car he was in go in front of us out of G6/G7.

It seems to me that he has an agenda. I don't mind former players being honest and offering their opinion, but I don't like former players that tend to run down the team. I think Zach tends to run down the team and take a little too much joy in that. He's kind of like football's version of Paul Shirley (except that he never played).....thinks he is very clever and the smartest guy in the room.

As far as fans leaving early..... I don't leave games early. I just don't. I pay a lot of money for the tickets and despite what it sometimes seems like those players out there are working hard and have put a lot of time and effort into things. It's gotten to be a point of pride with me. Obviously not everyone feels the same way, but I get irritated when people leave games.

Zach seems to be "the smartest guy in the room" type...but also a young professional. Meaning, he sometimes is a fan, sometimes a reporter, sometimes a friend of a player, etc.

I follow him on Twitter and one tweety he will offer great fb commentary/insight but the next name drop or post a photo of celebrities he was close to die to being a media member.

The guy is young and trying to make a name for himself. I think some people are being a little too hard on the guy. He was not the only former player that voiced their disappointment about the game last Saturday. A lot of these former players feel like they built the foundation for the program and are now watching it fall apart.

I had no idea who he was, and googled his name. This was the second hit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zak_Spears

Thats definitely him.

I've listened to him twice. First with CW, second with Miller. I turned the Miller interview off. He come across as a dude that feeds off the guy interviewing him. He seemed to be trying to make nice with miller by taking backhanded slaps at ISU, when he got the impression Ken was liking what he was saying he tried to take it to the next level and sounded like an id10t. I've been a clone fan for 25+ years and have followed football/basketball/wrestling pretty darn close and never heard of him. If your going to throw out the former player card, make sure you played.

Heard the interview as well and thought he sounded like a moron who was pretty out of touch with Cyclone nation. I don't understand his arrogance either, the only reason he was at ISU was to try and keep Sedrick Johnson a Cyclone. It was a throw away scholly.

When the team gives up before the game even starts, its hard to rip on fans for giving up at halftime. I would think the teams performance would hurt recruiting more than fans leaving early.

I don't care if he's a former player. Blum and Williams are better reports than he will ever be and they don't have the luxury of insider info like he does. As far as attacking the fans, I paid over $60 to yell at Mangino and Burnham for 45 minutes. I couldn't stay another quarter because I was tired of hearing Oklahoma's stupid band play in my ear and freezing my tail off while the team played without heart. Our fans show up pretty much better than any other program out there. The crappy performances this year have had nothing to do with the fans, and everything to do with preparation and mental toughness. Time for kids to grow up.

My Mom left early. She never leaves early. It was the first time she has ever left a game before the final whistle. The fans are not the problem. That is like blaming your dog for ******** a kennel after leaving her in there for 20 hours. It isn't the dogs fault you are bad owner, just like it isn't the fans fault we are a bad team.

I would like to know what foundation these former players think they laid. I was on the most successful team in ISU history and I am here to tell you that if there is a foundation laid here at ISU for winning it is an extremely unstable one. I love ISU but I am a realist there is NO foundation at ISU for being a consistent winner and definately not one that is falling apart. In fact with the young talent we currently have I think forms might be able to be put up to pour a foundation.
