What is your single favorite beer in each of the categories listed below?

Yes, I know beer categorization is complex and that this is not a detailed or exhaustive taxonomy. However, I think this captures the more common types of beer available. I've added a few"other" categories for all of those wild ales, dark lagers, imperial white spiced Czech apricot pilsners, and any other wacky styles.

Here's mine...

Lager - Moosehead
Pale Ale - Toppling Goliath PseudoSue
Porter/Stout - Alesmith Speedway Stout
Wheat Beer - Allagash White
IPA - Green Flash West Coast IPA
Brown/Scottish Ale - Brooklyn Brown Ale
Red/Irish Ale - Peacetree Red Rambler
Dubbel/Tripel/Quadrupel/Belgian - Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad
Fruit/Pumpkin Beer - New Glarus Raspberry Tart
Other 1 - Boulevard Rye-on-Rye (rye beer)
Other 2 - Surly Coffee Bender (not sure how to categorize this)
Other 3 - Exile Rauchbier (smoked)

Its technically a brown. Really too thin to be a stout IMO.

-Pale Ale: Zombie Dust
-India Pale Ale: La Cumbre Elevated IPA
-Session India Pale Ale: Stone Go To
-Double India Pale Ale: Surly Abrasive
-Stout/Porter: Too many to count, but I'll throw Confluence's MilkMan in the ring
-Imperial/Breakfast stout: Firestone Walker Parabola/Bourbon County
-Brown/Scottish: Backwoods Bastard
-Red: I'll pass
-Fruit: Jester King Atrial Rubicide or Crooked Stave WWBV
-Belgian: Cantillon is in Belgium...had Fou Foune again last night and it was incredible.
-Wheat beer: Tallgrass Halcyon

I'm not a big Lager fan, but everything I have had from Jack's Abbey is phenomenal.

I was never much of a fan of IPAs until I had Confluence Des Moines IPA which is one of my main beers these days. To be honest there aren't many beers that Confluence makes that I don't like. The Extinction Event New England IPA is really good too. Peace Tree Blonde Fatale is probably my #1 beer, their bourbon barrel aged Blonde Fatale is pretty good too, it has almost a butterscotch taste to it. Boulevard Wheat is my go to wheat beer and their Tank 7 is up in my top 5 beers too. Boulevard Saison Brett is a dry hopped version of Tank 7 they put out on a limited release and would love if they did again as that was a great beer. For Oktoberfest beers Mill Stream makes a great one. Went to a party a few years ago that everyone was to bring Oktoberfest beers to share so I brought Mill Stream and everyone I talked to that tried it thought it was the best one they had that night.

There are so many great beers anymore I think it's impossible to just name one for each category before you might change it.
German Helles: KC Bier Helles Lager
Hefeweizen: KC Bier Hefeweizen
NE Style IPA: 515 OJ IPA, Big Grove Easy Eddie in there too.
Fruit beer: Keg Creek Apricot Ale
Sour: Boiler Brewery Water Mi Melon Mimosa Gose
Coffee: Boiler Brewery Juanita Valdez
APA-American IPA: Way too many but Pseudo Sue and Deschutes Fresh Squeezed.

Technically it's a brown ale...and a phenomenal beer. I hate coffee but I can run through a 4 pack of Coffee Bender in no time. I really wish they'd can Cacao Bender.

I'll try to make my own list a little later. I've really been following beer hype as little as possible and finding more interest in what's on the shelves. Singlespeed Victory Dance seems to be my go to these days.

It looks you pointed that out back in 2014, lol!

I should update my list. I too am almost completely out of the hype loop, and just go for what I see at the liquor store that interests me, and make a point of trying what the locals are up to. I get to Pulpit Rock and Pivo quite a bit. I'll try new TG stuff when I see it out and about, but hardly ever go to the Clark Mahal.

I've completely lost interest in pastry sours, BA stouts, and fruit/lactose IPAs. I saw something the other day about "slushy" beers being a big thing. **** that, whatever it is.

Seriously, are you telling me that you can tell the difference between these just by tasting them? You have some mad skills. I would have to see that to believe it.

Did I quote a super old post? I'm an idiot. I saw there was a new post and assumed it was a new thread. Infant twins are scrambling my brains.

Not only did you quote it today, you quoted it 5 years ago to make the same point.

It's pretty amazing, really. Congrats on the twins!

I know you're being sincere, but sometimes when people say this, I know they're really hysterically laughing on the inside.

Telling the difference between and Belgian Ale and a Belgian Quad? THat is a huge difference if you ask me.

And a white versus a regular ale is just as much of a difference.

No harder than telling the difference between some pilsners.

But hey, if they are all the same for you - that is great. Save money and just have Blue Moon or Shock Top
