Big East the worst BCS conference? In the last 3 years the Big East is 12-4 in their bowl games including Rutgers over Kansas and a West Virginia blow out over Oklahoma in a BCS bowl a couple of years ago. Want to compare that to the Big 10, ACC, or several other conferences? Some of you Big East bashers might want to reconsider. I did after U-Conn came to Ames and manhandled Seneca and one of our bowl teams a few years back.

UCONN had nothing to do with the Big East at the time. They were just coming into Div I-A football and were, I believe, an independent at that time. They lucked into the Big East after the ACC sniped some of their teams.

Over what time frame is this poll based? If it's over the history of the BCS, then the Big East is the worst. If it's over the last two years, then the Big Ten is the worst.

Thanks, I forgot U-Conn wasn't in the Big east yet. But U-Conn was then and has continued to be a pretty solid program (they won their bowl game last year), and have been part of the Big Easr for several years.

Yeah, because a conference that featured U of Miami in its national championship glory as well as Virginia Tech and Boston College in their collective primes makes the Big East as the historical worst conference :skeptical: Add in Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and Syracuse (they were actually pretty good back then), and it's one of the more underrated conferences. Actually, the Big East really didn't begin to suck until those three schools left.

I'm impressed with what they've done as a program as well.

Not entirely true. UConn was going to join the Big East whether they got raided or not because they were kicking Temple out. But you're right, UConn was an independent when we played them.

I think the ACC is worst (this year), but change the question to most overrated and the votes for the Big 10 are understandable.

This is interesting. Number of teams in the AP Top 25 by conference:

Big XII - 6
SEC - 5
ACC - 4
Mountain West - 3
Pac 10 - 2
Big 10 - 2
WAC - 1
Big East - 1
Independent - 1

You might want to consider the fact that the Big East only gets 1 team in the BCS every year....meaning that they are essentially playing "1 up" on all the other conferences in their bowl match up. The WVU win over Oklahoma was impressive, but that teams coach is in Ann Arbor now....I don't expect WVU to replicate the success they had under RichRod now that he is gone....and without WVU being elite....there isn't an elite team in that conference.

The Big East also only has 8 teams in the conference, so there will likely be a quicker drop off, relative to the other BCS 10,11,and 12 team leagues, so I'd argue that it balances out. Overall league strength is based on the average strength of the teams, not which conference has the most elite teams.
