Here is a picture of what an ISU baseball team would like. The HC paid $36k. The pitching and hitting coaches paid $24k each. The trainer would also be a certified mechanic so when the 40 year old Blue Bird school bus breaks down the school doesn't have to have it towed. There will be a supply of green and white lawn chairs for the players to use while the trainer/mechanic fixes the bus. On away trips, the team will stay at Motel 6 or if they can find a state park, they will camp out. Meal money will be scarce so having a player know how to cook road kill will be required.

Not exactly sure.

Naw, you will see like men’s golf and women’s softball (or some order of one of each) killed and replaced.

There is no chance because it would not surprise me if in the future most Olympic Sports within the Athletic Department are governed closer to Club sports.

That said, I love baseball but feel the current NCAA season heavily favors southern and western schools. It would be fun if the Big10 exercised some of their "$power$" and start a summer baseball season. Since Big10 schools are rolling in the cash, they could introduce summer wood bat baseball. That might attract elite HS players to northern schools.

UNIs position is if you give us $100M to start the program and $25M a year for 25 years, we'd start baseball tomorrow.

Short of that, if it's mandated, we are funding it at the lowest possible level, will play only walk ons, won't pay to go south in the spring and will probably go winless every year. We're not taking a dime from any other program.

That should be ISU's stance also.

The only way either sport is ever added is if it replaces another sport already here and I don’t see that ever happening.

Iowa State’s best chance to add woman’s wrestling was probably a couple years ago when Sorensen retired. Maybe you could’ve convinced the BOR to swap sports.
As in replace softball with women's wrestling?

What are you all thoughts on this? I know it sounds good to have baseball back. However, nobody ever went to the games and it just cost a lot of money. Not sure if anyone would show up to womens wrestling either. I would rather we stay pat on the sports we have and spend the money that way.

Is the state going to fund them? No? Then they should shut up about it.

Bringing back baseball would be a disaster. Let’s bankrupt the athletic department by having to add both baseball and a women’s sport. Both of which just suck money out of an already limited athletic budget. The idiot politician should stay in his lane

Just for reference, softball lost about $1.5M in 2023 ($357k in revenue, $1.9M in expenses). Men’s wrestling lost almost $2.2M ($330k in revenue, $2.5M in expenses). I can’t believe baseball and women’s wrestling would do any better. But sure, let’s take on another couple of financial losers to the tune of $4M/yr. Why not?

A stupid bill from an unserious legislator.

Not to dispute your use of the numbers, but I find it hard to believe that softball realistically brought in more revenue than wrestling.

I am already pissed AF at about every politician right now so why not add fuel today with this.

In the NIL climate and money situation this is not feasible and about as good of idea as me putting a Hawkeye apparel store in Cytown

We are going to see sports removed if anything.

On a selfish and probably sexist note I wish the ncaa would sanction some really cheap women’s sports to balance out title 9
Replace swimming and diving with esports for example

Women’s basketball lost $4.4 mil - by far the biggest drain on the AD finances.
Don’t know how you can justify that amount of red in today’s world.

Or simply exempt football from the equation.

You may not have to worry about title IX too much longer. I imagine it will soon fall victim to DOGE when they come after the Dept of Ed.

Not exactly sure.
I was personally thinking swimming and diving
That honestly would make the most sense and probably almost pay for itself. We already have wrestling facilities and we wouldn’t need to keep up swimming and diving facilities. When the men travel coordinate the women at the same time to travel together.
