The study was performed by a Wisconsin group. It would be curious to determine how they got their data as the criteria for binge & heavily drinking are easily understood.

Not a surprise. Wisconsin drinking is on another level. It's actually legal for a 12-year-old to have a drink in a bar if he/she is accompanied by a parent.

And I can guarantee that they don't even check for any adults around in certain areas of the state unless 'accompanied' means parents are at least somewhere.

Not somewhere near or easy to reach, just somewhere.

I'd say it makes a lot of sense that they're all concentrated in one region. It's mainly a cultural thing, so it seems reasonable that a lot of counties from the same region would be similar. It's not that there aren't heavy drinkers in those other regions, just that they consistently make up a smaller proportion of the population.

Still seems odd. Just seems like at least a few of the top 50 would be from other regions. There has to be a poor county somewhere in Appalachia with more alcoholics than the 41st most alcoholic county in Wisconsin.

We moved this year to #1 Outagamie County, WI from college town Lawrence, KS. I drink a lot, actually too much and I know it, but these guys are on another level.

It's cultural. We have 2 bars within 2 blocks in our residential neighborhood.

I guess there might be a few ways to try to estimate this. But I wonder what their definition of "binge or heavily drank" is?

Until a couple of weeks ago I think I was headed in the wrong direction. It was nothing for me to have 3-4 "drinks" a night, sometimes on two occasions (early evening then later evening). I will define 1 drink as a "shot" or 1 beer.

I am now trying to limit myself to "2 drinks" five or less times per week. I think that is reasonable and manageable for me. It's easy to overdo it for some of us.
