That 4th down call gets continuously mis-represented by a lot of people. There was over a minute remaining when X didn't get the 1st down on 3rd and ISU had a timeout.

Agree. It was a chicken s**t ultra conservative call that loses you games. No reason whatsoever to put that poor kid out there again to take the heat for the loss when you knew his head was messed up.

Even if you have a good kicker it's the wrong call in my mind. I just want to point that out, because up to that point we appeared to have a good kicker that hadn't missed all year.

When you're on the road you don't play for OT. Not when you need a foot for a 1st down with over a minute left.

Id honestly be curious to see some broader analysis than just ISU but its always felt to me that the home team benefits more from night games, and the road team benefits more from 11am games.

The doink factor is underrated here. He didn’t just miss, he clanked two off the same post. That’s going to **** with anyone, as any golfer knows…push two out right off the tee, next one is likely going to be the too much overhand hooker.

ISU goes for it on 4th and gets it, but ISU still needs a TD which the way they were playing was far from guaranteed.

The chart said to kick a field goal. The chart also says you only run a QB sneak under center when you are on your own 1-yard line. I think this chart has been haunting the football office since 1979.

We went under center for a QB sneak on a 3rd and 1 and picked it up earlier in the game. Well, technically there was an offsides penalty on Kansas but we would have picked it up by a yard. I don't understand why it doesn't happen every time. Hell, put a lineman in at fullback to push the QB forward.

I've never coached FB at any level, but I always thought you play to win on the road. Seemed like the O was doing okay at that point in the game.

@ChrisMWilliams if you want to keep up the Tulane hype, look into their basketball stuff. Their coach is the same dude who was coaching Georgia State when they beat Baylor and they ended the season really strong last year. Get yourself more NOLA fans

Let's not act like our kicker was Justin Tucker prior to the KU game. His field goals were short yardage and low trajectory. The field goal, the super short one against Iowa, woof. If Iowa even bothered to push in with their lineman, it would have been swatted.

Kicking field goals is not easy. I wonder though if what Jace can learn from this is that he could approach adjustments like steering a boat. Instead of trying to make a major adjustment by turning the wheel heavy in the opposite direction, a slow and slight turn in the opposite direction will make sure the boat doesn't turn too much the other way.

The talked about Hunter being tentative and hesitant on running. I agree with that notion and I wonder if the coaches are so committed to our QB being strictly pocket passers. It would be nice if he had more confidence on getting up field if there is green in front of them. It would probably open things up if he was more of a threat. I wonder if getting down to 206 lbs has hurt his confidence in doing that. At 230 he may be more comfortable at putting his body out there.
