This has been on my mind since late March. August is a few months away, but will they allow about the million people who visit the fair each year to go? If it does happen, how different will it look? Low attendance? Not as many vendors? Curious of what everyone thought since it’s such a huge thing in this state.

I think it happens. That's A LOT of money to lose if it doesn't and a lot of cattle people really rely on it for sales.

I do think it happens, but I don't think an official decision will be made until mid July.

I would assume attendance drops about half if it does happen. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Should and will are vastly different.

I personally don't think it should, but with infection and death numbers still going up and everything opening up regardless, my guess is it will happen. I think it would be really stupid, but wouldn't be surprised.

For sure. Anything that would generally attract large groups of people will see significantly fewer people. That probably carries on through the year.

I would guess they will let 4H kids and their families come to exhibit projects. I think they will use the entire schedule to break out contests and livestock shows throughout the two weeks but everything else that comes with the fair(Vendors, concerts, midway) wont happen.

This is correct. Should it, no. But will it? In my opinion it will. To much money at stake, plus if we as a state are already opening when total numbers and deaths are going up, I doubt they will shut down one of the biggest events of the year. I am sure Governor Reynolds will "trust" that Iowans will socially distance lol.

You'd think a decision has to be made one way or another in the coming few weeks or so. Will be instructive on what happens with college football starting up in Iowa soon after...

Very easy to social distance 100,000 people a day.

The State Tourism Board is already pushing back on the governor saying schools will be allowed to open early next year. I have zero doubt that it will happen.

I bet they still pull 750k...

Not exactly sure.
Piggybacking the question. For those who say it won’t happen do you also believe Iowa State will cancel it’s football season? Because 50,000 people at Jack Trice are more tightly packed than 100,000 at the state fair

My guess is it happens with MANY modifications, such as no concerts, no rides, limited food, etc.

They'll play football at some point. Will fans be present? Not sure on that...
