Many Hawkeye fans call Kinnick Stadium historic, but I don't understand why. Is that just because it is old? Is the stadium a state historical site?

I'm not convinced 75% of the Iowa fan base could even tell you.

I asked in a different thread, hawks responded with (basically) old and pink locker rooms.

They don’t think JTS stadium being the first and only stadium named after an AFrican-American is historic.

According to a hawk poster here a couple weeks ago, one of the reasons he said it was historic was because it has pink locker rooms.....

IMO, it is because it is old. But I always ask, when did it become historic?

I don't have a problem with them saying historic Kinnick. What bothers me... is the emphasis, and a strong emphasis, is put on historic. Why?

I don't think anyone outside of Iowa City considers it historic. The announcer guy over there is nauseating with this.

Aren’t things an antique at 75 years old? I would say at that age.

Nope, the only reason it's called "historic" because hawk fans think that saying it a lot will make it so.

I and follow up asking, when was it 75 years old. Usually get a blank stare, either due to lack of math skills, or not knowing (basic) info on a historical site.

IMO Kinnick lost the "historic" title when they removed the piss troughs and installed urinals.

It really is a nice parlor trick.

    Hawk Fan: HISTORIC Kinnick Stadium.
Keep: When did it become historic (no emphasis)?
HF: Well, when it was 75 years old.
K: When did it become 75 years old?
    HF: .............

It's old. That makes it historic.

It's historic to them because it is the only stadium named after a Heisman Trophy Winner. But if it is the only stadium named after an African American, it's not nearly the same amount of Historic.

Repeatedly calling a place historic implies that something special happened there over the years since its construction. Wonder what that would be.....
    The Wave, maybe?
