why do photos on CF say "mandatory credit" instead of just "credit". Why the word "mandatory"?

We just copy, paste the captions from where we get all our photos. I don't know why they write mandatory instead of just credit. I copy whatever they write in the box.

If the rule is to give credit they'll give credit. I'm asking why the word "mandatory" is in the caption. That one word doesn't change whether or not it's mandatory.

Yeah it is just something with the language used by USA Today. Not anything we do in house.

It's written to people who would use the photos from their database. They're just saying writers have to credit the photographer if they want to use the photo.

Jared got caught not giving credit, so now he has to write "mandatory credit" 1000 times after school.
