Why did we kick a field goal instead of going for it?

I am aghast at that. What the heck? What were they even thinking?

Because Texas HAS to score the TD.

Up 6, need 7 to beat you. It's really about the math.

Up 3 it goes to OT. And you might be up 10. Terible, terrible call by Rhoads there. And very un-Rhoads like.

Nope. Right call. Hoping the D could stop them (without refs help).

Should have gone for it. Everyone knew Texas was going to drive for a touchdown there. Everyone.

But if you go for it and don't make it then Texas has to drive about 95 yards and you are still counting on the D to stop them.

But why do prevent defense and let them go all the way down the field without much of a challenge before you try and stop them.

Is a 6 point lead really better than a 3 point lead in that situation. The answer is no.

Just as dumb was the decision not to let them score after the PI call. You'd have over a minute and 2 TO's to get in FG range. There's the problem with a defensive minded head coach, hopefully he learns from this.

Why didn't we run the ball instead of pass it.

The answer is yes. Suppose Texas is 4th and X from the 20. That's the difference between Texas kicking the FG and sending it into OT and forcing them to convert the 4th down. The problem is ISU didn't stop them (according to the refs, anyway).

As Herm Edwards once said "YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!" A field goal there loses you the game 31-30. When you are Iowa State and you are playing Texas, you have to be aggressive and TAKE the win. With Texas's season and their coach's career on the line, there was no way they weren't going to man up and go down and score there. Just the reality of it. A touchdown wins you the game. Plain and simple.

100% without a doubt the correct call.
