i had a ram 1500 2023.... before i got a 2023 f150.

that dodge was CHEAP and rode so bad.
That says a lot about the Colorado’s ride…

No argument on the cheapness of the Ram. It’s like stepping back to the ‘90s.

I know it's not an EV but has anyone driven the Maverick Hybrid 4wd?
Haven't driven it but my nieces husband has one. I think it is now getting small for 2 adults 2 car seats and a mid size dog. Does get really good mileage though from talking to them.

Not necessarily. That BYD charging system relies on a 1500V architecture. Most on-road BEVs operate at 450V with a handful at 800V, so you could easily charge that 3x as fast as most of the current cars on the road without changing the amp draw. The megawatt charging standard is real and it's being used right now in BEV mining equipment. Some of the over the road trucks are investigating it as a way to get to a BEV semi that's feasible.
There are semi/class 8 applications that arent super high mileage, and for them BEV can make a lot of sense. They drive 200-300 miles during the day, then come back to the depot to charge overnight. A driver is only allowed to drive 10 hours a day no matter what.

Autonomy and longhaul trucking will take a while to adopt BEV IMO.

There's a lot of trucking applications that are currently running a day cab or straight truck that I think would make a lot of sense for BEV adoption.

Came to talk about this, glued the panels on? WTH it's freaking metal weld it, rivet it, bolt it.
Nearly all if not all manufactures are gluing panels these days. I've used adhesive for sheet metal repairs on muscle cars. Easier stronger and less prone to rust. A few spot welds are required because seams aren't as resistant to shearing forces.

Since 2015, the aluminum-bodied Ford F-150's have used a bunch of structural adhesives (glue) in their design.

Done correctly structural adhesives are superior to welding. The key word is correctly. You should look up how they do crash repairs on damaged supercars with carbon fiber frames. It's super interesting and they glue the **** out of them.

This discussion made me look 8nto the topic further. This is what found in a nutshell Concerning application fit.

  • High Strength, Structural Applications:
Welding is often the preferred choice for applications requiring high strength and load-bearing capacity.

  • Dissimilar Metals, Weight Savings, Sealing:
Adhesive bonding can be a better option for applications involving dissimilar metals, weight savings, or the need for a sealed joint.

  • Dynamic Loads, Environmental Conditions:
Panel bonding adhesives can be a good choice for applications where the joint will be subjected to dynamic loads or harsh environmental conditions, as they can be formulated to withstand these factors

I dont want a cheap car, I want a reliable car. Definitely waiting to see how this plays out over the next five years which is my window of new car purchase. Still leaning more towards hybrid.

r/electricvehicles REALLY hates Tesla and REALLY loves BYD. It's interesting how much this has changed over the last few years.

BYD is the world's largest and now most profitable EV producer. I wish we had the choice to buy them in this country. Competition breeds innovation.

Will they need to import them all or would they build plants here? If they built plants here, would they be able to keep the price down while also paying American workers what they expect? Very curious how that would translate. Would love competition, but compared to Japanese and Korean vehicles here in the states, Im not sure China could out price them.

There's definitely a growing market in this country for EVs that aren't Tesla.

There is for sure. just curious how BYD would fare here vs Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and the US flavored.
