I watched the Virginia Louisville game last night and the announcers were talking about why Virginia is so good at defense and one of the points they made was that they use their hands to obstruct the vision of the ball handler. They talked about all Virginia players are coached to put a hand in front of the eyes of the person with the ball so they cant see. It's the same technique when defenders close out on a shooter and they put their hand in front of the shooter's eyes instead of trying to block the shot. Woodbury has probably used his hands to try and obstruct the vision of an opponent a thousand times. Woodbury probably just misjudged the distance, it happens.

Someone should tell him that the palm of his hand is a lot larger than the point of his hand. Seriously, who face guards like that?

We all better keep an eye out for this type of play moving forward.

The thing that blew my mind about this one was that Trimble had the ball around his hip area and Woodbury's hand is going towards his face. I don't get it. It's not like he's going to shoot the ball at that point.

When you close out and get a hand in the face it is common for the hand to be up. The shooter would see the palm of your hand. Woodbury has his palm down and fingers towards the face.

I'm not sure if he is doing it on purpose or not. The only person who knows is him. I'm simply saying I've never seen a guy pat an offensive player on the head and then poke him in the eye as he stands out at the 3 point line. I'm guessing you haven't either.
That one no I cant explain. I think you see every player extend their arm like that to judge distance and blow view probably doesn't help when Woodbury is 7-1 and Trimble only 6-3. BTW, Trimble said after the game that he didn't think Woodbury did it on purpose and that it isn't a big deal, Kaminsky said the same thing. Like you said Woodbury is only one that knows if he is doing it on purpose but I wager if Woodbury played for Purdue and did this we aren't having this conversation.

The ball was about 1 foot below where dingleberry's poking finger. After 3 of them, it's time for a suspension.

When you watch it happen live though, Kaminsky took a step back and raised his hands in disgust as to say "WTF". I'm not sure what he was thinking at that moment other than 'seriously dude'?

No, but that discussion would be happening on Purdue and Indiana message boards.

And if Trimble and Kaminsky didn't say they thought it was intentional because in Kaminsky's case he won both games. In the case of Trimble, he lost but I'm sure he's looking forward to going off on Iowa in their next matchup. Plus, both of them would be called creampuffs if they pointed out that Hillbilly is the only 7 footer in college basketball who has to resort to finger pokes and scalp rubs to defend against shooters.

Opening paragraph.

Maybe it was a coincidence that Iowa center Adam Woodbury just happened to poke Melo Trimble in the eye right after Melo had hit three straight shots late in the first half and temporarily pulled the Terps back into Sunday’s game, but you might not think so if you saw his defensive performance against Wisconsin this season.

Clearly, while Niang was at LeBron's camp this summer, Woodbury was at the 3 stooges camp.

This video never fails to make me extremely happy. I giggle like a child when I watch it. I like to think that DeAndre got as much joy out of that play as I have.

From the Hawk central story...might be time to raise the Francon level:

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery gave little response when asked about the spurt of Woodbury eye pokes."Next question," McCaffery said. "Ask an intelligent question."
Asked why that wasn't an intelligent question, McCaffery responded, "Because I said so."

LOL, he is such a nutbar.
