I agree with those saying Baylor is improved. Actually reminds me of us about 2 seasons ago. Their defense is pretty salty and they do enough on offense.
Overall the Big 12 is a deep conference this year and its hard to win on the road. OU is the best team, hands down. Their offense is about the same as last year, but their defense has improved a ton. Getting UT at home in November is great for ISU, that will be a key conference game. Looks like us and Baylor are about equal, in terms of talent, but they have chalk on us, so that is going to help them the rest of the year. One game at a time, we have road games the next two weeks, against teams that do not have better talent that us, we need to make hay, and pick up a couple of wins.
I’ll be honest guys... let’s not crown OU until after next week. Tech may be the hardest game they played and it was at home.
My wife said it best - this looks like basketball all over again. Anyone can take down anyone (minus OU) and everyone will say the B12 is weak because the 3-9 are going to make a mess of the standing every week.
I was surprised at how bad the TX pass defense was. WVU was throwing the ball all over the field. The 4 INTs helped TX, but WVU still made that game uncomfortably close. ISU had better do a better job on the backend of the defense than that next week. TX defense has really had ISUs number the last few years, so that is one of the growth things that I am looking for from the coaching staff. Need to crack that nut.
The thing is, WVU’s quarterback isn’t even really that good, at least as a passing quarterback. Texas should be concerned about that.
I think Tech is struggling to figure out what their identity is. They’re going to win some games they shouldn’t and they’re going to lose some games they shouldn’t.
Friend of mine is a DIE HARD Tech fan. Talked at length last night. Synopsis: Tech will be better w jet duffey as qb. Bowman was good but only started because duffey could not grasp the playbook. Rice qb got start after bowman got hurt for same reason but was/is not good at all. All the OC Yost fault. Going to now settle on duffey, defense is average which is an improvement. They will be good and get their share of wins, but not going 9-3. He was pretty optimistic, but also convinced duffey was the answer even tho the coaches didnt. I havent seen them play myself so idk really. I think tech is probably going to be a tough out on the road for ISU, but winnable.
Can you imagine the 3rd and 12+'s we will probably generate in this game just to have Ehlinger run to get them. Ugh....horns down.
Baylor is good. Their defense plays with an edge, and Brewer is a good QB. Good recipe in the Big 12. Kansas State’s win at Mississippi State skewed a lot of expectations. They’re still going to struggle. Their offense didn’t handle Baylor’s speed well. Very slow developing plays. Thompson is serviceable. Oklahoma State was the biggest surprise of the day. Sanders threw some awful interceptions. I think we’ll have another shootout with them. Ive never been impressed with Duffey for TT. I think he’s clearly worse than Bouman. Didn’t watch Texas-WVU closely, but Ehlinger looks good. He’s going to kill us. ISU is going to struggle against good QBs and give average to bad QBs a lot of trouble. Purdy and co. are going to have to outscore a few teams.
