Keep dreaming. I cann't to ask the question "so do you guys still think there's no difference in talent between Nebraska & Iowa State"? after we hang 50 points & 600 yards of total offense on your sorry defense.

With comments like this...you're asking for it. Really...you are begging for trouble.

We've "danced" before and we'll "dance" again. Keep in mind you've already received a stern warning for your behavior here.

There are no further warnings for you. Well...I 'spose you could consider this one.

And...it will surely be your last.

Support your team...with some actual substance...leaving the smack out of it.

We play UNI first. I think we will beat UNI but we can't look past them to NE. This would be a good thread to have next week, mixed in with the fire mac threads that will surely be present.

Yes, it is critical that fans not look past the UNI game to Nebraska. Please, moderators, ban all references to Nebraska until next week. I am very concerned that if we start talking about Nebraska on cyclonefanatic.com, ISU will lose to UNI.

I believe Amy had the appropriate response to that perception. We as fans can handle more than one game at a time. We still elude to EIU and Toledo at times. The UNI game from a Big North standpoint is just less important than the Red one.

Let's see. Both teams will be 3-2 when Red rolls into Ames per Mangini today. Mark is very confident that he will win. Jon Cornish will take it to the house.
So what did they talk about on Sport Zone Omaha most of their time today - fat Mangini jokes. That was their main topic of the day to counteract the weird affection shown by Cowherd and Dan Patrick towards discussing Terrill Owens and his recent problems.

ISU lose to UNI because we talk about Big Red ten days before? Holy smoke, Batman, we may be onto something.
The active threads are the active threads. The new UNI thread was not interesting ebnough for people to be engaged in because we will win or the season will be over. I think we can handle more than one game thread at a time. We have threads for terrill Owens, EIU gameday hype, tickets, props. I think we can handle more than one topic at a time. I do not see how our talking about Red will diminish the Clone effort against the Panthers.

I will try to rescue the UNI thread so we can focus on the game at hand.

Here is a non biased discussion of Red last week:
the idea that Sun Belt Conference players get beat up while their athletic department cashes checks?

Troy played at Florida State, at Georgia Tech and at Nebraska on consecutive Saturdays, as in Bada Bing, Bada Bang, Bada Banged-Up. Troy didn't do it out of the goodness of its heart. The school played the games for the money -- $750,000 from Nebraska alone.

If the scoreboard is any judge, the games took a toll on the Trojans. They nearly upset Florida State, losing 24-17 after the Seminoles scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns. They went into the fourth quarter against Georgia Tech tied 14-14, only to lose 35-20. And last week, the Huskers blew out the Trojans 56-0.

Surely, after three losses to teams with the biggest and fastest types of Division I-A football players, the line into the Trojans' training room would look like the line to get into a Wal-Mart at 5:59 a.m. on Thanksgiving Friday.

At least, that was the assumption before Troy trainer Chuck Ash corrected it.

"When you play good teams with good athletes, you don't get as many people hurt, because our guys are playing as hard as they can play," said Ash, who has been at Troy for 20 years. "We see more injuries after we play teams not as good. The guys at Nebraska were running by us. They weren't hitting us. Against better teams, we don't get hurt like we did [when Troy played] in Division II. Teams in the Gulf South Conference depended on physical toughness to be competitive."

Ash said he had only the normal number of injuries this week. Speed kills, yes, but only on the scoreboard. Playing against speed doesn't hurt, except the ego.

"A couple of years ago, after we played LSU so close (the Tigers won 24-20 in 2004), our guys left saying, 'We played pretty well,'" Ash said. "After we got back from Florida State this year, our guys cried. It's not, 'I hope we show up and play good,' anymore."

So how does he explain the widening victory margins over the course of the three games? Ash cited two reasons, one on the field, and one above the shoulders of his players.

"Nebraska's got the best team," Ash said. "The wear and tear may have had something to do with it. It might have been the futility of the deal. I'm not a psychologist. But David only had to play Goliath once."

Not that anyone would believe playing that type of schedule is a good thing, injuries or no injuries. And not that Troy is going to stop playing those games. Next season, Troy's nonconference road games are at Florida, Georgia, Arkansas and Ball State. Oklahoma State is actually playing at Troy. In 2008, the Trojans' road games include LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma State.

HISTORY OF LINCOLN, NEBRASKA
bar.gif

LINCOLN POLITICALLY FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE PRESENT -- HER PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS -- FOOTB ALL TEAM, PAVING, SEWERAGE, AND WATERWORKS FIRE DEPARTMENT, & THE POLICE FORCE

1869 - The town of Lincoln was organized in 1869.
1870 - The Town Trustees elected were C. N. Baird, D. S. Smith, D. A. Sherwood, C. H. Gere, and H. J. Walsh. C. H. Gere was elected Chairman, R. O. Phillips was chosen Clerk, and N. C. Brock was continued as Treasurer of the board.
1871 - On March 18, 1871, the town was organized as a city of the second class, under a charter. The election occurred on the third of the following April, and the officers then chosen were: W. F. Chapin, Mayor; C. H. Street and R. E. Moore, Police Judges; A. E. Hastings, Marshal; T. F. L. Catlin, Clerk; G. W. Ballentine, Treasurer; Councilmen -- First ward, L. A. Scoggin and C. C. Burr; Second ward, D. A. Sherwood and J. M. Creamer; Third ward, J. J. Gosper and J. L. McConnell; T. T. Murphy, City Engineer.
1874 - Bugeaters invented football.
1875 - The Fire Department kept pace with the growth of the football team, and today is recognized by the Board of Underwriters to be one of the best organized, disciplined, and equipped, departments in the West; in fact, second to none. The first volunteer fire company was organized in 1875, and was named the Phoenix Hook and Ladder Company. In 1872 the growth of the city demanded better protection, and a Silsby steam fire engine was purchased, and named The W. F. Chapin, the Hon. W. F. Chapin being the Mayor of the city in that year. Two hose carts, and 1,000 feet of rubber hose, were purchased at the same time, and a company called the Chapin Hose Company was organized, with a roster of fifty men.
1881 - Bugeaters invented the forward pass.
1884 -Two new hose companies were organized, known as the Merchants' Hose Company No. 1, and the Fitzgerald Hose Company No. 2. The "Fitzgeralds" have a national reputation, having won the Nebraska State championship belt and cart in the years 1884 and 1885, and the world's championship at the city of New Orleans in 1886.
1886 - Bugeaters reinvented the single wing.
1887 - Bugeaters became Anmerica's team.
1889 - the police force was reorganized by Marshal W. W. Carder, who came into office at that time. Marshal Carder has already added a number of features of excellence to the department, and the force is in a most effective condition for the duties belonging to it. It now consists of nine night men and eight day men, including the Marshal.
1902 - Bugeaters won the national championship.

2004 - Frank Solich was fired for 10-3.

And Son, that is why the sun always rises first in Lincoln for the rest of history.

We will know much more about ISU and NU after this weekend. We will find out two things: 1) Can ISU piece together a full and impressive game against a lesser opponent, or will they stutter along and keep UNI in it late? 2) How well will NU perform against KU? They received a whoopin' last year, and KU will be the first average team that NU has played against so far. We all know that NU walked over much lesser opponents for 3/4 games, and they "held back" against USC for some ridiculous reason. What will they do this week?

For what it's worth, Florida State has had a history of bad offenses for the past few years. They'll let anyone hang with them. (See their games versus Miami, Troy, and Clemson this year. Rice is the exception.)

Also, Nicholls State is far different from UNI. UNI played for the 1-AA National Championship last year. That's not saying that they deserve to be in 1-A play, but it's certainly not the rag-tag team that Nebraska faced.

I think the biggest thing wrong about Nebraska is that we still don't have an accurate idea of how good the team is. You have the blowouts against no-names, and then the implosion versus USC. The Huskers could have very well walked out with just the field goal, seeing as they scored late.

Let's average the two best teams on NU's schedule so far to get a "middle of the road" expectation for this year, so that the other two teams don't inflate the stats.

Nebraska averages a 29-20 score, while ISU averages a 23-29 score. (ISU's averages are from all four games, as they've had two "bad" teams and two "good" teams to play on their schedule.) Nebraska averages 397 yards of offense while averaging 350 yards on defense. ISU averages the same thing, visa versa.

So, by those numbers, NU should still win. However, I still fail to see how that adds up to "50 points and 600 yards" that you claim NU will rack up. NU's offense is not an invincible beast, but rather a hungry 1-A offense that feasts on Sun Belt, C-USA, and 1-AA teams.

For what it's worth, the USA Today power rankings rate ISU's schedule thus far as the 7th toughest in the country, while NU's is rated as the 89th toughest.

Big Red Scouting Report Update for TRUE Clone Fans Only:
1. Now they are saying that Cody Glenn hammy is getting better.
2. Kurt Mann is still very weak and proabbly not a factor for Clone game. Barney Byford will be the center.
3. Red jack of all trades backup linebacker was playing all poisitions in the game(two inside types and two outside types) because he is so smart.
4. Do not expect Nebraska to use the nickel and dime defense packages much until their new defensive backfield players are adequate. Expect pretty much the front four to carry the rush load. (Hear that Cyclones?).
5. The linebacker corps took a big hit when Dillard went down.
6. They are still hoping that Herrion can regain his speed. He is not as good as he used to be.
7. Maurice Purify is getting better but has a ways to go.
8. Huskers have lots of room for improvement.
9. Playing on the road is not one of their fortes.
