ESPN just released their 2017 basketball top 25 recruits and who comes in at #24 and 5 * is none other than Fran white lightning McCaffery's son Connor McCaffery who plays for IC West. Had no idea his kid was that good. Is it even worth our time recruiting this kid?

He'll probably start off real hot, fade down the stretch, and tell people to suck a fat one when he signs with Eastern Illinois.

I've seen Connor play a bunch, he is pretty good.

It may be what keeps Fran around if he doesn't make the tourney this year.

cool thread though, I think you answered your own question before you even asked it.

By that point, Fred will only be recruiting top 5 players.

I would think only if his dad is on a very hot seat (see McDermott, Doug).

No. If Fran is still at Iowa, letting Connor come to ISU would cost him his job. If he's not then Connor would probably go with him to the next job, a la the McDermotts.

Where are Fred's kids for the class of 2027 or whatever it is? There's got to be some early rankings out.

On the plus side, unless Fran gets that program in order and solidifies his outlook in Iowa City to a four year horizon, it's unlikely that Connor would be a Hawkeye, either.

If he's anything like his dad he'll collapse over the last 8-9 minutes. Might even slam a chair or two. Do not want.

Cue the mouthbreather Iowa fans that will hail Fran as a great recruiter for getting a top 30 guy.

Best thing about this thread is that it reminded me to check an old forum about Patrick McCaffrey's thyroid tumor status. I lost track of what happened and this made me go back and read up on the good news.

In terms of Connor, Fred will get him as a transfer and then pull his scholly.... just cuz.

Kinda off topic but does anyone know what class Elijah long is? It gets me jacked up thinking of having another long four years. Not to mention we all know longs have ice in their veins and know how to finish games unlike any mc caffreys.

Saw him at the State Tournament. Wasn't overly impressed.

To be fair, he wasn't asked to be a star on that team this year; they didn't need him to be with Lohaus running the show. He's also listed as a SF in that recruiting list; he plays the point at IC West (or at least he did this year). He's apparently been playing very well on the AAU circuit.

I hope he ends up at Iowa...that means Fran will still be coaching there in 2017

Then again, looks like the perfect recruit to jumpstart the program at Southwest Sienna Central.
