DeDe Richards as a top defender in the conference should A. have known better than to put herself in that position to make the ref make that call. B. That call was a lot more noticeable than the call on Rae. Both call were technically correct, but DeDe's was way more obvious than Rae. Rae did not look like she hit her, but it was a landing space foul.
What a great win! So happy for them. We've got one team dancing!
If it’s a foul, it should be called whenever it happens
I agree. Also, on that final sequence, the defender had her hands out, made contact with AJ, & the result was an altered trajectory/strength of the shot. That, by definition, IS a foul. I understand that it wasn't a "hard foul" and that usually refs don't call the softer stuff late in the game - but even the slight contact was enough to alter the shot and, thus, was the correct call.
Had the shoe been on the other foot - KM would have definitely wanted a foul to be called there. Finally, ONE PLAY usually does NOT decide a final outcome. The Sisters wanted this win more & outplayed BU in every aspect of the game.
EABOD Kim. Go State!
no. It was a good foul call. The Baylor girl hit her arm in a side swipe.
OMG, this is such a work of art in an otherwise painful ISU Sports year. That needs to be framed and displayed at Hilton.
This photo says it all. Kim is a consummate drama queen who also is self-entitled.
Seeding is almost slavishly follows RPI. We're at 49 (11) before BU. The math doesnt move much in one game. A 9/10 sets us up for one tourney win.
I have to give Mulkey a little credit. Her comment after the game...
"Make this all about Iowa State," Mulkey said. "Don't make this about what Baylor didn't do. Make it about what Iowa State did. And give those kids kudos, give 'em props, give 'em everything."
I know that CBF has had many critics over the years. Some of those criticisms may have even included valid points. However, if you ever doubted whether CBF is still a GREAT coach - today showed you just how great he and his staff are! If you look at what we had to work with today compared to what was at BU's disposal, we shouldn't have even been within 10 points of them. The difference was that the Sisters continue to buy-in and execute the "Cyclone Way." Our culture won today vs BU's "we're gonna out-athlete you" approach. And, for the record, I still think we have the BEST player in the conference for the 2nd year in a row. We'll see what the voting members have to say, but I wouldn't trade AJ for ANY player in the country!
Had to be a very satisfying hand shake for Bill as he approached Mulkey post game.
What a great win by the ladies today! This whole season they've played with a ton of grit and heart great to see it rewarded on Sr. day.
Work interfered so I couldn't attend but JW's call of Inez's 3 is a GREAT call I hope someone from the AD sends her an audio file of it.
Deep down she probably isn't all that upset about the loss. Nice little wake up call for her players before the tournament(s).
I have NEVER been a fan of Mulkey, but I appreciate her comments.
She's a good coach, but I still don't like her entitlement attitude.
All that AND... Ashley Joens passed the 1000 career point mark. She is the first Cyclones wbb player to do so in just two seasons.
What a game and what an ending. I couldn't tell about that foul at the end from the reply on the video board. If people say it definitely was a foul, then ok. I'm still fine with the idea that the basketball gods gave us one after the Tech game ended similarly *not* in our favor, too.
Got to meet geewago, who sat with us for the first half. Was a nice visit - looking forward to more in Kansas City when the games aren't happening.
I like that Mulkey made those comments after the game. It shows that while her antics during the game are frequently over the top, she has a lot of respect for Fennelly and isn't afraid to give credit where it's due. The pre-game hug and conversation between them shows that nicely, I think.
So I love AJ as much as anyone, but Sabrina Ionescu says hi.
Two things, I thought KM was very gracious in her post game as has been noted. As to the foul, just look at Didi R. 's face she never complained and you could tell be the expression she had committed a foul. At least once when a foul was called on a Baylor player she DID NOT complain to the ref she did nothing.
