Rutgers announced Wednesday that the school has extended the contract of women's basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer for five years, taking her through the 2025-26 season.
Stringer just completed her 50th season overall as a college coach and her 26th at Rutgers.
Let me do the math, she's 73 now and will be 78 years old after she finishes her contract. I guess 80 is the new 70 speaking about retiring soon.

Could Mulkey replace Fargas, who's leaving LSU for the WNBA?

If there was a year to move, this would be the year. If she left for LSU, do some of her Baylor players decide to join her at LSU? SEC seems a bit in flux right now, with South Carolina being the team to beat, followed closely by A&M, from there is seems wide-open.

She did say the following in a radio interview a few days ago.
She'd have LSU in the Final Four within four years.
I can totally see this happening. She has nothing left to prove or challenge herself at Baylor. Wins the conference every year and goes to the Final Four all of the time.
Edit: Walking this back some as far as how attractive that job might be. It is her home turf and all but LSU is WAY down the pecking order in a strong league. Could she turn it around? Sure, but does she want to take on that big of a project?

With the new transfer rule, completely agree with this. She would easily challenge South Carolina for the SEC title on an annual basis, and the SEC is a better women's basketball conference than the Big 12 is right now.
That would be her biggest challenge, this season the SEC was a way better WBB league than the Big 12. Thinking about that disparity in league strength makes want to retract my previous post on her going Final Four at LSU. She is one of the top four or so coaches in college basketball but that would be a lot tougher than my first hot take would suggest.

Would be interesting to see what Mulkey could do at LSU. Then the bigger question for us is...who does Baylor hire and what is the impact to their program?
More often than not, irreplaceable coaches have proven to be just that, irreplaceable. If she were to actually really leave Baylor it would give us our first chance in decades to maybe sneak in and win a conference title. Will be a short window though, we'd have to peak before Texas fully rebounds and OU is rebuilt.

Grad assistants usually don't last longer than maybe two seasons. Maybe two years was her plan, but NDSU offered her a full assistant coach position after only one season at ISU.Seems she was hardly here long enough for a cup of coffee.
As for Mulkey, also think of these things:
1. she is getting close to retirement
2. 2nd grandchild is coming (her daughter is a coach for her but what about SIL).
3. Where are her parents? Are they in Louisiana?
4. Is it about money or the challenge?
5. She likes winning, this would not be great for the ego.

She is now likely in the back seat behind Scott Drew. MBB Nat'l Champs >> 3X WBB Nat'l Champs and more current.
Her $2.27M salary doesn't trail Scott's $2.77M by that much considering the normal pay for WBB coaches.
