Everyone is making a big deal of OSU being unbeaten (5-0) in Big 12 play. Yet, they've not played any of the top half schools. They did beat WVU which seems more impressive after WVU's win over Texas. I suspect we will see a double down defense on their post and dare their guards to beat us. This one will be like our last game and completely depend on our shooting and aggression in the lane.

Listened to the coaches show last night, Fennelly mentioned how much time Emily Ryan is spending in the gym, The janitor asked him something to the extent of does that girl every go home? That's a great thing in a point guard.

Completely agree. My standard of gym rat was always Jake Sullivan. I remember hearing that he put up 300 three point shots every practice.

Emily Ryan is averaging 8.0 assists per game in our four Big 12 games.

Leads the league whether you sort by all games or Big 12 only. I sorta lean league play since so many cupcakes in NC for lots of the teams. Odd year for us because so far NC was a tougher schedule than Big 12 so far (that will change in the next couple weeks starting tonight).

Also a pretty good assist/turnover ratio is 2.9. :)

Found this background article on Gopher Katie Borowitz enrolling early interesting. Was shocked she saw the court the other day but they were in foul trouble and had injuries.

Early rise puts Borowicz on court

It was a week before the Nov. 11 signing day, when Borowicz was going to make official her intent to play for the Gophers women’s basketball team. She was on a FaceTime call with Lindsay Whalen, her future coach, who asked a question. Something like this:
Do you think it would be crazy if you graduated early and came to play with the Gophers right away?
“I was like, ‘Is that a thing?’ ” Borowicz said Wednesday.
It is.

Gophers play the the Maryland Brenda's tonight on BTN regular channel. It's going to be a blow out but I'll look in anyway.

Well, Maryland rolled like I thought but high school Katie played four minutes and had 8 points including two NBA distance threes. That was fun to see.

Iowa is at Maryland next week. Hope that is BTN national. Should be one of those 90 something to 90 something games. Maryland is back to having a full roster again (dat Covid) and will probably roll even more now.

Iowa State's game at Kansas State is moving to Thursday, Jan. 28. Nothing on when/if Kansas can be rescheduled. Don't see a lot of openings.

I think they left a week open between the end of the season and the Big 12 Tournament where some make up games could be played. Wonder if they would just have all the teams that have make up games to play to head to KC early and play them there.

Who continues to do well in "the bubble"? ISU!!! I know there is some luck involved but our Athletic Dept has handled Covid as well as anyone IMO. I'm sort of surprised the MBB team hasn't had a outbreak as undisciplined as they are on the court.

Worth a "bump"...Jinx?:jimlad:

I watched the second half of this game and Texas was more aggressive and 3 starters fouled out for them. TT frustrated Charlie Collier and nobody else really stepped up. TT played better and even used our Purdy play towards the end of the game.
Kansas also lost to TCU which means ISU and BU are tied for first with 1 loss each. And of course I must point out we have the tie breaker (but you know they haven't played in two weeks and were down two players).

Iowa State is back to being ranked at #24 in todays AP poll update. Pretty consistent with our NET rank of #22.

Baylor dropped to #9 and Texas dropped out entirely. West Virginia is with Texas in the others receiving votes.

Great to be ranked again but disappointing to see the league so weak.
