Y’all ever stop to think that Tom Manning uses a limited playbook because he knows how inconsistent the line is?

or that Purdy sees ghosts because he’s running for his life every play?

6 years of the same inconsistency and it’s clear that the inconsistency is more on Manning not knowing how to help his OL. He gets blame for the development part too.

Purdy NEVER had good feet in the pocket. Needlessly backpedaling from the start and struggled to step through the wash. He struggled Game 1 most years. The ghosts are on him.

An average OL with these issues around them will appear more inconsistent than they actually are. Every year we’ve talked about the OL potentially improving through various personnel, yet often the same issues. Purdy and Manning play a big part in that

I rewatched the Bowl game. I thought Tyler Miller played really well. He had a couple of mistakes early, but he moved well for a big guy. You could tell his length caused the Clemson DEs issues. Sometimes a tall guy will struggle with pad level issues, but I didn't see where he had any issues with that. I think Miller and Remsburg will greatly improve our tackle play next year. If the Juco or someone else beats them out, that will be ok too.

False. FALSE. False. maybe.
What makes you so sure on any of that?

I’ll be shocked if a true freshman makes the 2 deep on the OL, let alone actually plays if a starting guard goes down.

The JUCO OL could be good with time but I am guessing he’s not a starter game 1.

Isaiah Lee (aside from Enyi at times) was our best interior DL this year. He will start.

I had thought that Hunter Deyo was going to be a defensive lineman. Did that change?

So with Xavier, Noel, Shaw, Wilson, and a few other inexperienced receivers ....are we 'ok' at the receiver position with the newbies for depth?
Just asking because a few posters were mentioning trying to get a good receiver in the portal. Problem is, the proven stud receivers probably aren't likely to go to a team that's breaking in a new quarterback for the most part.

VERY nice work. I have a few minor differences, but not many:

QB: Dekkers, Bouman, Cook
RB: Brock, Silas, Sanders
X: Hutchinson, Gaines, Wilson
M: Noel, Jackson, Silas
Z: Shaw, Wilson, Porter
TE: Dean, Hanika, Moore
F: Rus, Hanika
LT: Miller, Trieber, Maro
LG: Hufford, Pauls, Sauser
C: Downing, Ramos, Ross
RG: Simmons, B. Peterson, Smith
RT: Remsburg, Dean, Rengert

RE: McDonald, J. Peterson, Gray
NG: Lee, Singleton, Brown
DE: Anderson, B. Peterson, Onyedim
WILL: Vaughn, C. Pederson, Imming
MIKE: Vance, Zenzen, Mendeszoon
SAM: Reeder, Marshall, Willich
CB: Purchase, Antoine, Miller
CB: Tampa, Kyle, Crosby
FS: A. Johnson, Morgan
SS: Freyler, Chambers, Howard
Star: McDonald, Verdon, Cooper

I think that we're going to see multiple TRFR play major snaps. IMO Gaines would be starting if Hutchinson wouldn't have come back. Still, he's going to be the primary backup at X. I think we'll see Imming, Willich, Howard and Cooper playing special teams and getting some backup snaps on defense.

Couple thoughts on your good write up here:

- I think you nail the starting OL. That starting OL can be improved next year and can big an above average OL in the league. Downing can road grade better than Newell, Hufford and Simmons are good talents. The question is tackles for me. I like remsberg and miller is unproven. Miller showed out well in the bowl.
- I predict Gains or Essex in league play starts to play more than Shaw, simply b/c it seems they have more speed.
- Look at this defense coming back? I can seriously argue Freuler is all big 12 first team next year. Getting Vance back is huge. And the starting LBers with Reeder, Vaughn, and Vance will be really good. CB looks solid as well and Craig McDonald is very talented. The D to me can be better next year, seriously.

I really want to see the fade return to our repertoire. Shaw has the body for it. We’ve recruited so many +6’4” guys the last several years, it has to be a mismatch for most corners.

I feel better about the receiving corp next year than I did about it this year. Hope Shaw can come back healthy and be that big body that we need. Need to get creative in playcalling to get Noel and Silas loose and show off that speed.

I think we are underestimating our losses at TE. Hopefully between Dean, Moore, & Hanika we can get some receiving production. I don’t trust that we simply replace that production with the WRs we have.

To that point, hopefully there are some WRs currently on the roster that can blossom and step up (if we don’t get a transfer). Guys like Daniel Jackson, Darien Porter, Tristan Michaud, D’Shayne James, Aidan Bitter. Someone from that group needs to emerge.

My main question on the defense is, who can fill in and be run stoppers like Enyi and ZP were?

That, and who steps up at LB to push the starters. Need depth there.

I was impressed with Blake when he was in later in the year. He will fill in fine being opposite of Will. Lee also did well filling the run gaps.
