I think we have some pleasant surprises in store with regard to defensive play this season. Klein, Knott and Mcdonough are going to all 3 be surprisingly good...at least, surprising to outside observers...and make the middle of our defense very solid. They'll be backed up down the middle by excellent safety play (Sims, O'Connell). Our corners are also quite good...which leaves the DE's. If Neal is better, Parker is back and improved, and Nelson is a nice speed rush from the outside...than this defense is going to be well ahead of last seasons. That's a few ifs, no doubt, but well within the bounds of what is feasible.

I'm not a Valley guy by any means, but it's nice to see so many guys from Valley on the roster. They've been the most dominant football program in the state the last ten years and they may not churn out blue chippers, but they do produce guys with good size and football smarts. Most of them are walk ons, but I think Ben Bruns' presence has really paid off, and I believe Blythe just got hired there.

Valley has produced some decent Cyclones over the years (Casey Shelton & Jason Scales to name two) and there are a couple on the roster now that could make a difference this year, or at the very least in the next few (Jake Williams, Zac Sandvig, McDonough, Kron, Vanderkamp).

Jennert is up to 6'7...thats one tall WR.

I talked to Donnie at a gathering a few weeks back. The kid looks like a giraffe. Skinny as a bean pole. He's a bit goofy, but he's a good kid. Hopefully he'll see some field soon.

That's still small, only safety size. He can grow bigger. Also surprised Neal is only at 235 lbs.

215 lbs is not too small to play LB. I think Ace Bowen weighed that. George is realistically probably about 5'10" and built like a brickhouse. He can't get much bigger... without losing all his flexibility that is.

235 lbs for Neal is ok, if it's truly 235. It's not ideal for sure, but it's better than the mid 220's where he was at last year. Hopefully Rony Nelson can push him for a starting spot?

If the wrestling team needs a couple of small guys. the football team has 2, WR's at 155and under. They better be quick?

One of them is a walk-on who just joined the team last winter. The other is a true freshman. And yes, they are both quick...although neither will probably play this season.
