…people are going to be upset anytime we lose, let alone losing like we did Monday.

I was over it by Thursday and I'm done talking about. You guys want to talk Kansas I'm all ears, but I'm done arguing about it.

Bruh…Purdy recovers from three pick games faster than this.

Tell me how I should act then when we are on the front page of ESPN for having the biggest meltdown on the history of the Big 8.

Should I just be happy they tried their best?Or that they had fun?

JFC, I dont how to make this any more clear, people are going to be upset anytime we lose, let alone losing like we did Monday.

I guess my thing is why it bothered you so much? Were you in Lubbock? Do you practice with the team? Do you draw up plays? If not, that loss should not reflect on you as a person. I was really upset losing that game the way they did, but it happens. I didn't let it bother me one more day. And the people that can fix it are not us fans. We have a group of transfers from small schools that weren't expected to do much this year after Williams went down. A true freshman finally looked like a freshman for half the game. Sure would've been nice to have Williams give him some rest, or Kunc to be his calming presence. But he didn't and they took it hard and got back to work.

It's never as bad, and it's never as good. Life's too short, you're a good fan. Go Cyclones!

Like others have mentioned, I'm surprised KU didn't aggressively press and trap more and try to speed us up. . Tech and Mizzou gave them the blueprint. I figure we will see more it, especially at WVU.

There's an old saying that teams who like to press and trap don't like to be pressed and trapped, so it will be interesting to see more teams try this tactic.

One adjustment you can already see is teams are using the skip pass to try to counteract our traps. Sometimes it's effective and other times it leads to more turnovers.

KU oddly doesn't have much depth and can't afford to wear their players out or get into foul issues.

Agree. And if Grady D. and Wilson are a little off........they are in trouble. Not your typical KU team.

I concur that pressing, trapping, and speeding the game up seems to be the blue print for beating ISU. However, I also think it’s easier to deploy this strategy when you are at home and have the crowd behind you.

I fully expect WV to do everything in its power to speed up the pace of play against ISU. If you let ISU dictate the pace of play, they are very tough to beat.

I spent 5 minutes on this thread.

Fascinating how people who have never been to a practice, never been to a team meeting, never been a coach, don't understand long term strategy of a player's growth can have such strong opinions about something they know nothing about.

Waste of time.

Watched a replay of the game this evening and one thing that really stood out to me is how much TJs assistants are actively coaching the players on the floors during play. Kyle and JR specifically. JR was almost out of the coaches box one time. Which is such a stark contrast to KUs bench where Selfs assistants just sit there without doing much during play.

Not saying this as a slight to TJ and more as a kudos for the staff. It’s refreshing and adds the chemistry/composure of this team. There are no egos.

0 adjustments on either side of the floor. Bob Jones playing starter-level minutes despite godawful play. Lipsey throwing the ball away 3 possessions in a row and the same looks bringing it up the court. No Ward minutes at all despite no one else being able to do anything. Throwing up a contested 3 as the drawn-up play while down 1. The list goes on and on. Yet all anyone wants to do is complain about the refs.

Lack the depth to do it. Their ability level drops off a cliff after their starting 5.

Exactly. TJ has the self assurance to stand aside and allow his offensive and defensive specialists to coach the team. If you watch the huddle during time outs, you'll notice the same thing.

Makes no sense.

As someone above said it's much harder to deploy on the road where you team can't feed off the crowd and the opponent be negatively affected by it. With that said the struggles of Lipsey facing pressure up the floor and near the sideline, backing off Lipsey and daring him to shoot, and our previous inabilities to prevent Jones from being ISO'd were so profound it confuses me Self didn't even try to exploit them.

Personally I think Lipsey would handle the pressure better, but easily think packing the lane and daring him to shoot midrange Js or 3s was a superior strategy. I also thought KU could have stayed small and done a variety of things to ISO Bob up too but they didn't do that either.

I thought Self's tactics were striking and it felt like he and his staff hadnt even bothered to watch film of our last two games. On the overall TJ definitely out coached him this game. Self deserves an F.

So, what are everyone’s thoughts on TJs late game management?

Seems to me most of our late game plays are turnovers or last-second garbage shots (which besides @TCU, have not gone in). I don’t remember the last game where he successfully drew up a play that achieved its goal.

You mean the time when a bunch of starters were fouled out and there was no one out there that could really create on a team that struggles to create to begin with? That had been struggling with getting looks all game due to WV's length advantage?

Coaches can draw up a play or look but the defense doesn't just let it happen.

Okay, that’s one game. What about the others?

I don’t see why you guys take these things so personally. TJ is an excellent coach but he’s not perfect. I’m just trying to have a discussion here, and you respond like I insulted your mother.
