Re: The Mitchell Report

Where did you hear this? Speculation was that there would be a lot on the list due to the investigation into the Mets' equipment manager.

Mike and Mike guests reiterated what they were hearing is that the Mets were not linked like the Yankees. Remember that evidence has to be fairly goods to get your name in the report. Baseball does not want to get player's libel suits back in return after the report.

Re: Roger Clemons on the Mitchel report

And I bet the media drops the topic after a week or so... Come cooperstown time nobody will think twice...

Interesting. Why do you think that the media and voters will give Clemens a pass and they so desire to crucify Bonds? Is it personality, treatment of the media, race?

I have, personally, always been suspicious of Clemens...I am a year younger than him and I work out regularly...I know how my body has evolved over the last 5 years. My suspicions were confirmed earlier this year by an ex-Major Leaguer that my son takes pitching lessons from...he flat out told me Clemens was juicing (which is why he has played only partial seasons the last few years...somehow "gaming" the drug testing system that is in place).

I have suspected Clemes was on them ever since his days in Toronto when he came back from an off season absolutely ripped. I also played minor league ball with some guys from the Houston area, they made it seem like everyone knew that Clemens and Pettite were juicing, including coaches, Gms etc but nobody said anything. I posted some pics earlier that were deleted, pretty clear the changes, especially in head size.

As far as why I think the media will let it die... The media has HATED Bonds for years, thats no secret, so of course when they get a chance to go after him, they will. Now that a 'Good ol Boy' like Clemens is on there they will just try and broaden it to say that it was just a way to keep up...

Oh, isufbcurt, I'd give you some pos rep but it says I have to spread it around first...

Re: The Mitchell Report

I am gonna get negative rep'd for this but oh well. First I am not a baseball fan, but I don't really care if these guys did roids. Yes they are illegal in the US, but I believe baseball didn't have a "rule" against them. Yes they were frowned upon but they didn't have a specific rule saying the players couldn't do it.

I agree 100% curt. The reason its a big deal because taking drugs to make you play better is a sexy media story.

What is the difference between a player taking roids and a player who got pulled over for drunk driving? Both did something against the law but did not break a specific MLB rule.

I agree with this. I don't like lawbreaking. And I certainly don't like cheating but it has gone on far before these drugs were introduced into the equation in MLB...corked bats, emory boards, etc. Hell, cheating didn't hurt Gaylord Perry's reputation (he got into the HOF).

I have three issues with the entire debate on the steroids/performance enhancing drugs:

--The immediate conclusion that hitters on the juice will be better, more powerful hitters. The reality is that many of the people who have been caught are relatively poor hitters with little power (like Neifi Perez).

--The immediate conclusion that hitters are juicing but pitchers are not. I actually believe the reality is that a higher percentage of pitchers are juiced than position players.

--The different treatment different players get that are either admitted or accused users...I think Bonds and Giambi have been treated very differently. In my opinion, you either accept it from all or you crucify all that have done it.

Re: The Mitchell Report

I had heard the Met's bat-boy squeeled so we should hear about some Mets players on the list.

I've heard this too, that there are a higher percentage of pitchers on roids than hitters. I guess it doesn't necessarily help them pitch better, but they're able to recover more quickly between outings. People don't realize that Bonds' HR that tied Aaron was hit off a pitcher that had previously tested positive for steroids. I place more blame on MLB rather than the players. The commisioners office turned their head for years even though it was clear what was going on. Now they're trying to go back and revise history. I think all the records set during the steroid era have to remain. The only thing baseball can do now is put in place a tougher testing system (i.e. blood testing) for performance enhancing drugs, and come down on them with stiffer penalties.

I hope not Pujols. I remember him saying "you can test me everyday if you want, I've never used."

I'm not a Cards fan, but I hope it isn't true either. MSNBC is reporting it on their site at the top, though.

Hahahaaha, I find it funny Kerry Wood is on it. He's hurt more than anyone in major league history.

I was surprised by Pujols is on there. While this list is not official, for sure anyway. He is really the only current superstar on there. You don't here much talk about him taking roids.

Pujols had his name come up a couple of years ago when his trainer got busted. It was quickly swept under the rug though, I guess it came back...
