So...why would the Cards be interested in trading him? Just because he doesn't get along with LaRussa? Who really does?
Jackson I guess I could maybe see, but not Thornton. He's untouchable, IMO.

A one pitch reliever that will make 6 million next year in his age 35 season should never be untouchable, especially when he's not your closer.

Sale does the same thing anyways.

I always liked Colby but it was frustrating watching him make so many bone-headed mistakes in the outfield or go cold for weeks on end at the plate. That said, he is only 24 and he may yet realize his potential.

Edwin Jackson is an underwhelming return, but he should be OK in the NL Central and with Dave Duncan as his pitching coach. It sounds like Rzepczynski will fill the LHP relief specialist role nicely, which is a spot the Cards have badly needed to fill for awhile. Dotel and Corey Patterson are not any better than anything the Cards could have gotten from their own farm system.

So, it's not really a terrible deal, but it's not a great deal. Hopefully the Cards can still get a competent shortstop before deadline.

The Cards traded a 24 year old OF with still a boatload of potential for a two month rental. God, TLR can be so damn stupid with the hatred he has for some of his players.

What a stupid trade by the Cards. Can anyone explain this?

no. At worst, Rasmus is an average everyday centerfielder but at 24 he has the upside to be an elite player.

You trade him for a mediocre pither you can only control for 2 months and a freakin reliever.

And you had to give up prospects to boot? Oh, but at least you got Corey Patterson back in the deal:twitcy:

Not saying this was a good deal for the Cardinals but I do feel people are selling Rzepcynski short, he's been a reliever this year but was for the most part good in the minors and honestly could easily be a solid #4 in the Cardinals rotation next year.

Says a cubs fan who hasn't sniffed a WS Championship in over a century. You'll be eating your words come OCT -- Duncan made this trade because Duncan saw somethings he likes and can improve upon!!!! He does it time and time again.

Why would a Cubs fan still care about baseball in October?

Add me to the list of the underwhelmed on this trade. I get that TLR and Raz were never gonna swap Christmas cards, but why not wait until the offseason when things settle down a little and see if you can't get more out of Rasmus? The kid had been a disappointment, but you could see talent in flashes. LaRussa has forgotten more about baseball than any of us will ever know, but I agree that once he gets a hard on for a guy, it's over. He'll run a talent like Raz out the door while going to the wall for a guy like Theriot. He's a tough one to figure.

According to the attached article from the Post Dispatch, Mo was working with Tampa Bay earlier this week, but was holding out for Shields or Hellickson in return. Even Nieman would have been better than Jackson in my eyes and Hellickson in particular would have been a great return...I can certainly see why TB is holding on tight to him. Hopefully this lefty they got from Toronto is at least worth his salt. Jackson is an enigma and a rental enigma at that. I just can't get excited about that.

Done: Rasmus dealt to Blue Jays; a win-now move, GM says

Rasmus was dead weight and he didnt get along with LaRussa. He will not be the next JD Drew to get traded from the Cards. I am glad they shipped him.
