Miami is closer to Iowa and Texas than it is to Boston College.

Texas Tech is closer to Stanford and USC than it is to West Virginia.

Colorado is closer to Northwestern than it is to UCLA. It’s closer to Ohio State and LSU than it is to Washington.

Yeah, very spread out when it comes to the furthest distances in those conferences. They try to mitigate the travel with divisions, but that's not always carried out to reduce distances (i.e. Florida State being in the ACC Atlantic with BC (while Miami and GA Tech are in the Coastal)).

Miami is closer to Boston College than either Iowa school though. They're not flying to Burlington...

Well there are some weird things when you start talking about distances especially when Texas is involved.
* El Paso, Texas is closer to San Diego (and the Pacific) than it is to Beaumont, Texas.
* Beaumont is closer to Jacksonville, Florida (and the Atlantic) than it is to El Paso.
* Perryton, Texas is less than 150 miles further from Canada than it is from Brownsville, Texas.

Texas is crazy big. I was looking at going to the Tech game, as there in a conference for work in Austin the following week. Fly in to DFW, drive to Lubbock, drive to Austin, drive back to DFW. Easy peasy, right?

DFW to Lubbock is 5 hours, Lubbock to Austin is 6, and then 4 back to Austin. Good lord. And haven't even talked about Houston or El Paso...

Nah, conference bigwigs don't want us embarrassing them and ruining their CFP hopes every year.
If the game is on the BTN the commentary want so much about the racism lawsuit coming up, the big 10 always sweeps away the ugly of the conference.
