Big 12/SEC Challenge nuggets, as it applies to Iowa State:
  • In 5-year history of B12/SEC, seven games have matched teams ranked in Top 25 at the time the game was played. Iowa State was involved in two of those: (18) Arkansas at (20) Iowa State (2014-15 season); (14) Iowa State at (5) Texas A&M (2015-16 season). (ISU went 1-1 in those).
  • Iowa State has not won a road game in the series.
  • ISU is the only team to score 90 or more points twice. (99-70 vs. Arkansas; 95-77 vs. Auburn).
  • ISU’s 45 points vs. Tennessee last season was second-lowest scoring output in the series (Auburn scored 44 in 46-44 loss to Tech in 2014-15). (Why I decided to include this one, I don't know ... Hoping for sports-memory exorcism, maybe ... )
Auburn and Arkansas scores are flipped.

Katz ranked the Conference Challenge Matchups for all conference 1-32.

22. Iowa State at Ole Miss, SEC-Big 12 Challenge, Jan. 26: Ole Miss should be comfortable in the Kermit Davis era by the time this game arrives. Iowa State should be in the middle of making a run toward the top four in the Big 12. Lindell Wigginton will be a known commodity and competing for all-Big 12 honors. But the Cyclones’ resume may need a little seasoning with a true road win.

And for those with what EIU is looking forward too.

32. Pitt at Iowa, ACC-Big Ten Challenge, Nov. 27: The Panthers are in a complete overhaul under first-year coach Jeff Capel. Iowa should be a challenger for a bid out of the Big Ten with the return of Tyler Cook. This is a game that shouldn’t be a question for the Hawkeyes. They cannot afford to lose this one.

Buckle up for this in a couple weeks. Ole Miss in the process of beating #11 Auburn at home by double digits. Ole Miss will likely be ranked next week.

I don’t much about Ole Miss basketball other than they recently built a nice new arena. Anyone know anything about their squad?
Just lost to hawks.

This game is setting up to be higher profile match up and help the metrics more than many thought when it was announced.

Ole Miss just upset #11 Auburn by 15 and sit at 12-2. Well see if they keep it up over the next 2 weeks but it will be a tough game and a win could look pretty good come selection Sunday.

Iowa State's SEC opponent being significantly better than anticipated is almost like clockwork.

Ole Miss lost to Butler on the road by 7 and at home to Cincinnati by 14. One common opponent - Mississippi beat Baylor (at home) by 8. Looks like a pretty even matchup, at least at this point.
