I want to know what AD schedules 3 duals in 4 days. That is pretty hard on the wrestlers even with the weight allowance.

I believe it is a smart schedule! They have plenty of time to recover and prepare for the post season. It is a great way to get wrestlers ready for the grind of the NCAA tournament. They have to make weight several days in a row and potentially wrestle twice the matches. If they can't handle 3 duals in 4 days, they certainly can't expect to go deep into the NCAA tourney!

Yeah, even when they were in HS they had up to five matches a day. Very few go to tournaments and only have one match a day. A full day to recover will usually be fine, if something is tweaked, that is why you travel with more than 10

Talking to Metcalf at the social afterwards, he talked to one of the Lofthouse coaches and Utah Valley is just very banged up right now. They were pretty optimistic when the season started, but the injury bug hit them big time.

They were already totally banged up even before they started this weekend. They only had two of their usual guys in the lineup for dual #1 (174 and HWT) and then for dual #2 they were down to one (HWT) and forfeited 184 (they were using their 174 backup at 184 so after their 174 pounder went down he wrestled 174 instead) and then for dual #3 they apparently lost their 133 backup to. And not to take away from Gremmel's win but Orndorff got pinned on Friday by an unranked guy so I'm guessing he wasn't 100% this weekend either. They're a mess right now but depending on what the injuries are there's a good chance they will be a lot more formidable at Big 12s.

Just with the grind of an NCAA season, you do not see the prominent programs schedule this way. I just have a different perspective I guess at this point of the season. Seems a bit much compared to other programs. Might be budget issues also that factor in.

I agree that budget could be a factor here. Are many programs open to having triangulars to help these programs out, if budgets are an issue? Seems better than 3 duals in 4 days.

By contrast to UV and other teams (and our teams of a couple years past for which you never knew who was going to be on the mat in any given dual) we have not had a lot of injuries this season. Better weight management a factor?

Sssh, I think a certain percent is luck. So far, it is just mainly the staff that is getting hurt.

I think VT went though some years with a lot of injuries. Devin Carter come to mind.
