Rumor has it that Callahan is out

The Nebraska boards are going crazy right now. Apparently, a reporter from FOX Sports has reported that Callahan has either stepped down or has been fired. I think it is highly unlikely that he has been fired.

I have no idea if this is true, but rumors are always fun, right?

I doubt very much if that is true. I've heard that the rumor started on the huskerpedia board which is one of the worst sites for getting a username hijacked. The so called reliable source likely was a hacker.

Nebraska is holding a press conference at 6 pm CST today... though its reason is unknown.

Why couldn't we have played Nebraska later in the year?

No way!!! That is going to cost them. That and the AD buyout has to be our entire football budget for a yer.

Oh don't fear my friend, Nebraska tried to give us every chance to beat them. We just couldn't do it. I mean, we scored 17 points and had over 400 yards of total offense. That says it all.

It's not official (yet), but it is also much more than a rumor. Fact: they would NOT have fired Pedersen if they weren't planning to fire Callahan. In the print edition of the OWH, explaining why Pedersen was fired so quickly, Tom Shatel basically says "There WILL be a coaching search, and nobody wants Pedersen anywhere near it." (emphasis mine)

that kind of money is nothing when it comes to the donor base... they'll give their first borns for a championship football program. It's pretty crazy the influence these people have.... "friends of the program"... quick! name the movie that is a reference from....

Big Sports 590 said John Fricke (of Fox Sports Radio) started the rumor. But, then again, he said Charlie McBride would be the interim coach and McBride himself told 590 no way...

Should be interesting

The buyout is nothing for them. The money to buy out the AD is coming from private investors and they have a wealthly donor base that will probably be more than willing to cover the bill to get a change at this point.

I highly doubt that they would do that right now. Even though I disagree with the temp AD doing the hiring, even if TO was going to there is no benefit to firing him without a replacement at hand. I would fully expect him to be shown the door right around the last game of the year, however.

Tonight's press conference could be just the official presser for Osborne's return to Nebraska as the AD. There are conflicting reports that TO wants Callahan out ASAP, and another one that says Osborne wants to wait until the end of the season before deciding what to do.

If Callahan is fired, d'you think we could get a commit from that Dan Hoch guy?

Callahan is a goner one way or another I'm sure. You don't make bold moves like this only to keep the guy in charge of the team in place.
