I'm still very fearful that we lose Wiggs, THT, and Lard after this season, and it would be a shame too because none of them are ready.

And if Lard doesn't start to get his head right, he may not even be allowed back next year, much less go pro somewhere.

Agree with so much here.

Also, I will continue to point this out until the end of time, but ISU will likely finish higher in the KenPom rankings this year than any year since he's started putting them out. So basically from an efficiency standpoint, this year's team is the best we've ever had.

Things are not going great here at the end, but this is still a really really good year.

The ranking may be higher but two years ago the team was more efficient meaning they had a higher efficiency.

Here is the ranking as of right now

2017 23.45 (Prohm)
2015 21.49 (Hoiberg)
2014. 21.07 (Hoiberg)
2016 20.95 (Prohm)
2019 20.60. (Prohm)
2013 17.63 (Hoiberg)
2012 16.69 (Hoiberg)
2005 13.02 (Morgan)
2010 11.09 (McDermott)
2003 10.59 (Eustachy)
2004 10.37 (Morgan)
2006 10.03 (Morgan)
2011 8.78 (Hoiberg)
2018 6.58 (Prohm)
2009 4.60 (McDermott)
2008 4.38 (McDermott)
2002 4.16 (Eustachy)
2007 2.67 (McDermott)

I think both Wigginton and THT put their names in. I actually think Wigginton is the more likely to leave based on the fact he almost left last year but who knows?

Lord knows everything was bad but Lewis got a little run in the first half and we gave up 52 to guys who MAYBE should score that in the entire game.

Being completely inept at rebounding was not good at all.

I'd say the go tough/preseason type practice backfired.

Agreed. Although you can tell the message got through to Conditt. He was pounding dudes and probably should have fouled out a lot earlier than he did. In the post game interview with Heft, he said his focus this off-season is staying in Ames and living in the weight room.

Love hearing that he has great potential.

I really think the missing piece on this year's team is confrontational leadership. Babb would be the ideal person to fit that role, but he doesn't strike me as having that in-your-face personality like Ejim or Niang or Naz had. Shayok has that steady, hard-working demeanor, but he also seems soft spoken.

I realize it's unfair of me to compare them to three greats, but we seem like this team needs that guy that's gonna grab his teammate by the front of the jersey and shake him awake.

Well Jacobsen did last nite:rolleyes:.

Excellent wording. Confrontational leadership. I was struggling to figure out how to phrase that.

I do think Haliburton and Conditt can be that kind of leadership. It takes a pretty special player to come in and be that. CW has told stories about Ejim being that kind of guy. But in the last 10 years, that's is the only freshman we have ever heard of being that type.

That could be a great good cop/bad cop combo.

I really like these two guys, and have all year. Haliburton from game one was my favorite player on the team, and in the last two weeks Conditt is making a strong push. I think it's always easier for a senior or experienced guy to take a leadership role, just as it is a great player. However, some guys are just born to be leaders and some aren't. Some have it and some don't.

I'm not comparing Conditt to Niang, but in some ways this reminds me of the season Niang was a Freshman. The team lost a game to a really bad Texas Tech team. Some of the upper classmen were tweeting snarky things about the fans once the idiot fans came out on social media. Then Niang comes out and had some good quotes really owning the loss in a direct but positive way. I was 100% sure that the program was going to be in good hands for years to come. I said before, Conditt showed a ton of character when he started seeing some DNPs when Lard came back. He was ready to step in and play when the time came, and his demeanor on the bench never dropped off.

I'm just going to enjoy the remaining games, including another trip to the tourney, whatever it brings. Then next year I'm looking forward to seeing the team regroup with these guys leading the way. I might be crazy, but even if everybody leaves for the NBA or otherwise, I think ISU will be a good team next year. I think we'll see a huge jump from Haliburton and Conditt, Solomon will be back dishing out punishment on opposing post players, and Nixon ought to be good. Jacobsen will be solid and Zion has some serious potential.

Wigginton at this moment in time is not ready for the league. He needs to learn ball handling, defense better outside shooting. His upside is enormous but he still has to much to work on.
Hopefully CSP is honest with him and tells him what he needs to work on. Maybe he can get another evaluation from the NBA after this season.

I believe some of the noise Prohm refers to is someone telling Wigginton things that wigginton wants hear. Prohm, I believe, is telling him the truth which is that he has a lot of work to do and the truth takes a man to hear. I don’t know who to plan on being back.

Or, more likely, that the players have been reading headlines about how good the are, final 4 material, etc. I think this is a more likely scenario than if he were singling out Wigginton. And, why did you pick Wigg when there has been more NBA talk re THT and TH?

I feel like any NBA talk on Haliburton went out the window once people saw him start driving it more. He’s got a ways to go. Our young guys have some interesting skill sets, but have to improve on some basics I think.

Because his body language is terrible- like he doesn’t want to be here. Halliburton plays with joy. THT gets out of control some- his defense hasn’t been great lately tho.
