Remember when we debated preseason all-conference?

People come in contact with each other playing basketball. Sometimes they even push each other a little bit. I don't want to watch the sport that would be created if you called every single by the book foul. Let great athletes claw and fight and play. It's more fun to watch. It's not grade school, deal over it.

Especially when it's 8 on 5 buddy?

I'll take a stab at the first and second team:

First team
Bamba
Azubuike
Young
Evans
Carter

Second team
Graham
Lecomte
Lard
Wade
Brodziansky

Although I could see Mykhailiuk taking Lard's place because they want another guard and because KU.

IMO, Lard should definitely be there. First in offensive rebounds, 9th in defensive rebounds, 4th in blocked shots, 2nd in field goal percentage, 18th in scoring, 5th in double-doubles.

I don't think Wigginton has the consistency yet. And there are a lot of deserving players in the Big XII this year.

You're not crazy to put Lard on 2nd team. If you look at stats in just Big 12 play he has 1st team level stats...but since ISU is not a great team this year he should probably be 2nd or 3rd team. If he doesn't make 2nd or 3rd team he'll be the best statistical Big 12 player I've seen not do so.

10th in scoring (above Bamba and could very well finish as high as 7th if he keeps playing the way he is)

2nd in rebounding (he was 3 per game behind Bamba just a few weeks ago and now only 1.5)

2nd in FG% (above Bamba)

3rd in blocks

1st in offensive rebounds

4th in defensive rebounds

Only 26th in minutes played...imagine what just more minutes does for him next year.

Best shooting performance in a Big 12 game. 10-11

Most rebounds in a Big 12 game. 17

5th in double double games.

But they don't just look at Big 12 stats.

His season stats still suggest 2nd or 3rd team.

His Big 12 stats suggest first team if ISU were more in the mix.
Wouldn't surprise me at all to see him make 2nd team. I have been thoroughly impressed with Lard and look forward to seeing his development for next year. Very impressive so far.

Some of our own fans are still surprised by it though. He missed the first two games for some sort of discipline, then through most of non-conf he couldn't stay on the floor for foul trouble.

....
Preseason Newcomer of the Year: Malik Newman, Kansas (G, 6-3, 190, So., Jackson, Miss./Callaway/Mississippi State) IDK and don't care/dumb award....

Makes sense. K-State doesn't have any young talent like Young, Bamba, Cameron, or Lindell, otherwise I'm sure you would have somebody penciled in.

Four guards is hardly an all-conference '"team" although all four are worthy. Still, I'll be surprised if Wade isn't first team. He's the most accomplished, best "big" in the league.
This isnt the MLB all star game, they make no consessions to position. Last years 1st Team All Big 12 had 3 point guards so I dont see why they would blink at 4 guards.

They dont have to play as a team; its just the 5 best players on 1st team, period.
