After going to Kinnick for the first time last week, Kinnick is a reaally nice stadium. I'd say in a majority of areas it beats JTS. The one thing they're really missing is a nice scoreboard. I took the one in JTS for granted before visiting Kinnick

Since we're evaluating JTS and Hilton longterm I'll give my analysis.

JTS has needed major work for a long time. A lot of it has been done, SEZ will get the job done. It won't be the biggest or best football stadium in the country but it will be average or better among FBS schools. JTS will never look like a historic football stadium compared to historic football stadiums.

Hilton has generally been an amazing basketball venue. It needs a little work but nothing major. Hilton already looks like a historic and epic building compared to the vast majority of college basketball arenas. It is imposing and dominating from the outside, and the fans on the inside complete the package. I was in Madison this weekend and Wisconsin's basketball arena looks like a pathetic popcorn stand from the outside compared to Hilton. Spruce Hilton up a little, keep winning and Hilton is as good as it gets. We're in a rare position that we don't need to envy any other coach or arena in the nation in basketball. Probably five programs tops can say right that right now on both of those.

Kinnick is a truly great college football venue. Full disclosure that I grew up an Iowa fan and still cheer for them with family and friends while not playing ISU, but I have always loved the stadium and going to games there, better than Lincoln where I also have been to quite a few games with friends.

Carver isn't as bad as some of our fans (and even Iowa fans lately) say it is, but it can't touch Hilton. If Iowa were to ever replace Carver it probably would mean the most to wrestling fans, lot of historic college wrestling specifically at that arena.

Are you like 22 years old? That's why this board sucks, you can never have an adult conversation. I mention Kinnick and you flip out like a total geek.

By that same argument, Cameron Indoor Arena sucks, Wrigley sucks, etc, etc.

Feel free to leave this Cyclone Fanatic Board discussing CYCLONE Football.......especially when you post that Jack Trice Stadium sucks. Kinnick does suck.....the bathrooms are atrocious. When it rains going to your seats is absolutely treacherous. And there is no potential solutions to all of Kinnicks problems. IMO, Kinnick has little character. It is just old. Jack Trice Stadium is in the midst of a renovation with the South End Zone Expansion. IMO, the schematic designs look great.

Feel free to go onto the Duke message boards and the Cubs message boards or any message board and tell the fans there that their arena sucks. But please leave since you have expressed your opinion that this board sucks........so WHY are you here?

So yes you are 22 or was I being generous?

LOL. You certainly have not followed any of my posts. You would know that I graduated from Iowa State when Earle Bruce was our coach. I went to football games at Clyde Williams Field........so you really have NO IDEA about the history of Iowa State Football and where we have come from and where we are headed in regards to our facilities.

Iowa State Athletic Department facilities have greatly improved from the old days of playing in Clyde Williams Field and the Old Armory. I have been involved in making the realities of improving our facilities happen over the last almost 40 years. So I take it personally when some punk who is not even a real ISU fan takes a snipe at us and says our stadium sucks.

Meanwhile, you have said that Cyclone Fanatic Boards suck........so please leave. You are not wanted.

I've been to lots of games at Kinnick and much prefer going to JTS. Sure the brick facade is cool and the big press box is imposing, but I'll trade that for a wider seat, better viewing angles, MUCH nicer and more spacious concourses with better restrooms and concessions, and better tailgating. Kinnick was built for 50,000 people when there was no tailgating so now parking and tailgating are very scattered. And it has a very small footprint that means the concourses will always be sardine cans. The viewing angles are a tradeoff. By putting the seats in a straight line everyone sits close to the field but those in the first several rows have a hard time seeing the near sideline. For example, we had a block of ten at about the 5 yard line for the 2000 game. Once J Mo turned the corner on that first play we never saw him again. We had to guess by the roar of the ISU crowd that he took it to the house.

Also, I love coming down from the balcony at JTS and seeing the trees turning colors along Beach when I'm on the west side or Cold Creek golf course on the East side. I can't get that inside a brick box.

But you can see a water tower at Kinnick. That is much cooler. I am not sure how anyone could refer to the Jack as disgusting. I would not use that term to refer to our towns run down 3A high school field. Strange.

Good points.

With the SEZ expansion we will get a much enhanced beautiful entrance to Jack Trice Stadium. And eventually we will get an expanded Press Box and Suites area on the West side. You have pointed out many of the problems with Kinnick that can not be remedied. And pointed out some of the plusses of Jack Trice. And it is only going to get better.

Jack Trice is only going to get better and better. Massive overhauls of athletic department facilities take time. Especially at universities with smaller athletic budgets like Iowa State. The South End Zone was always intended to hopefully be bowled in. It has taken the better part of my lifetime for that dream to become reality.

I remember driving by Old Clyde Williams Field for a few years after we had already moved into the New UnNamed Stadium now known as Jack Trice Stadium. The exposed bleachers to Lincoln Way and all the other sights. Many of today's generation really have NO idea of what we had before Jack Trice and Hilton Coliseum. They really need to check out ISU's history and understand the immense undertaking that has taken place over the years. That is why comments like Pseudonym's really **** me off. He is just a troll from another fanbase making his troll comments. And at the same time saying that this message board sucks. He should be banned for life.

In regards to Hilton, did they finish all the exterior renovations to the walk-ways and the outdoor plaza they were putting in to spruce up the Iowa State Center this Summer? Never heard much about that after the initial plans were released.

I think this last project only did the removals.

Here is the link to that, and also the ppt for the future improvement options.

The South Endzone project is a huge improvement. Spruce up the North Endzone and Expand the Pressbox with more suites and ISU will be set for quite a while football facility-wise.

Thanks, so still a ways to go on that one then.

They repaired the remaining walkways (poured new concrete in areas added railing and new lights) and planted around 200 trees (which is part of the new master plan). Haven't done much in regards to the plaza.

A little sensitive, are we? What a drama queen.

We can criticize our own, compliment another and still be ISU fans. We're all appreciative of how far the department has come and how bright the future looks. That doesn't mean we have to spew positivity 24 hrs a day. Otherwise, what would we discuss?

Chill out. We're not all "trolls" (the meaning of that word has been lost completely in the past couple years). Most people on this site love Iowa State, even if they think Kinnick provides a better atmosphere than JTS for a college football game. Pollard and Co. are working on that.
