Duggan is trying to work in football camps around Titan baseball games. He’s a sophomore pitcher, shortstop and outfielder for Lewis Central, which is 7-1 and rated sixth in Class 4-A.
After playing at 3-A No. 1 Harlan on Monday night, Duggan will get in a car early Tuesday morning and drive to Stillwater for a one-day camp at Oklahoma State on Tuesday night. He’ll drive back Wednesday and play baseball games Thursday and Friday. He plans to take the ACT test on Saturday morning and then immediately fly to North Carolina for the Tar Heels’ one-day camp. . . .
Being on the go is nothing new to Duggan. He was a starter on the 16-6 basketball team last season and ran a 48.9-second 400-meter split on Lewis Central’s fifth-place 1,600 relay at state. He said he ran a hand-timed 4.54 40-yard dash at Penn State but hasn’t been timed electronically.
In two years as the Lewis Central quarterback, Duggan has completed 210 of 373 passes (56.3 percent) for 3,040 yards and 27 touchdowns with six interceptions. Last season he led the team with 592 rushing yards and 14 scores.
Duggan has athletic bloodlines. His father Jim is the head football coach at Lewis Central and is known for his no-nonsense approach. He played quarterback at South Dakota. His mother, the former Deb Dodds, is an Algona, Iowa, native who starred as a hurdler at USD and is a member of the school’s Track and Field Hall of Honor. . . .
