I have a directv HD dvr going through an onkyo receiver to my tv both using HDMI. I have this set up for years, but recently when I first turn on the tv and receiver there is a delay before the sound and picture start to work. After a couple minutes the sound will kick in and then several minutes later the picture will show. I know it's the receiver because if I connect the dish directly to the tv it doesn't happen. I'm guessing it's a HDMI hand shake issue, but it seems really strange. Anybody ever heard of this happening or know what might be going on?

How do you turn on these devices? Maybe make sure to start the Directv box first and then wait a couple of seconds to start the A/V receiver.

Also, if it's an Onkyo 606 there are known issues with them developing handshake issues

I don't usually turn off the dish receiver. The receiver is a TXSR674B, just over 3 years old. The tv is a 50' samsung DLP. I also noticed last night that 1080p from my PS3 through the receiver no longer works. If I connect it directly to the TV it's fine, but if I run it through the receiver I just get a blank screen. If I change it to 1080i or 720p it will work. I think it's time for a new receiver.

I'm sure it could be fixed for a price but probably not worth it. Be like me and put the onkyo out in the garage.
