I completely agree with that. My point was I don’t see the MWC, AAC, and CUSA all backfilling with FCS schools.

The value prop for the MWC schools to jump in with OSU/WSU is very clear. I’m just struggling to see what the value would be for FCS schools to backfill in these conferences.
It makes a little more sense for some sorting rather than backfilling with FCS schools. The ones that can (or think they can) hack it maximize their revenue, while the rest can be more competitive. This could be a precursor to the rumored Super League, but for G5 rather than B10/SEC/ACC.

I agree, we are reaching the point there just are not too many schools left that are worth bringing up to the P5 level, I could see schools like Memphis joining the P6 and maybe UNLV but after that the picking are getting slim.

Whats he giddy about? Joining a new Mt. West?

Agree...the Pac 12 isn't even a shadow of what it was a year ago! Whether or not it is is the right move I have no clue but it seems like getting all emotional about joining the Pac 12 that does not include USC/UCLA/Washington/Oregon/Stanford/etc...yeah...just seems odd!

That would be like if the Big12 was only Texas tech and OkSt. Not the way it’s currently constructed. I honestly have no idea what they hope to accomplish with this move. I actually think it makes it harder for them to get a playoff birth then if they left it alone.

If they can get an 8 team league, then beginning in 2026 they would get one of the bids for the playoff according to the Athletic.

Correct as at that point they would be an actual conference. But it’s not an auto bid and would be no different then if they just stayed in the mountain west.

Here is what the Athletic article says:

Oregon State and Washington State’s only path to the College Football Playoff in 2024 and 2025 is as an at-large bid. In a rebuilt Pac-12, the conference champion would have a shot at one of the five automatic bids provided to conference champions. All that’s been determined for the CFP in 2026 and beyond is that at least five conference champs have a spot, however big the field is, and the Big Ten and SEC will make the most money.

That sure sounds like to me that if they have the 8 schools they would be one of the 5 conference champs that get a bid unless it would go to a MWC team, which is doubtful after their best teams just left the conference.

Only if they were the highest ranked conference champ. Could easily be the MAC or any other conference that gets a win over a P4 program and has a good year. If they joined the MWC it wouldn’t be any different and you could argue it would now be harder for the MWC schools that left.
