Re: Rashad Vaughn

Wow I'm surprsied Vaughn actually said that is one of the reasons that he's not going to Minnesota. The media basically screwed the Gophers out of a shot at a 5 star. If I was a Minnesota fan I'd be furious.

He may just be trolling them. If you never had any intention of playing for the Goofers but you were ****** off at the Strib, what better way to get even then to imply that Pitino missed out on you because of the stories the paper printed. I'm sure they will take a little heat for it, but they are big boys.

Yeah that would be a very satisfying way to get a little revenge.

Not to mention it takes the heat off of him for not picking the Goofers and places it on someone else. "I would have loved to play for the hometown team but look what they did." I think it is a pretty smart tactic.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Per the Pioneer Press article
Vaughn said he's expecting to pick a school at the end of February or early March.

He has a visit scheduled for North Carolina on 2/14. He doesn't appear to have any visits scheduled for KU or UK as of today. If he sticks with that decision deadline, is this most likely a three team race?

Goofer fans helped play a role in that decision. Check out the comments after the article, or gooferhole. What a terrible fanbase.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

We probably do not have a fallback right now, but at this time last year we did not know of Kane.
In watching Bobbitt as a backup, I do wish Scott at IHCC had not yet signed.
I bet Scott does as well. :)

Re: Rashad Vaughn

It wasn't very smart of Minnesota fans and media. I think they felt "entitled" to Rashad (perhaps like we felt about Harrison Barnes). They became very insecure when Rashad started considering other schools, although Minnesota was still very much in the race. When Rashad moved out of state, gopher media and fans completely lost it and took their insecurity to a whole new level. Effectively took themselves out of Rashad's list with their endless accusations and allegations.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I hope Vaughn thinks about examples like Diante Garrett. Even though he didn't get drafted, Fred helped him get signed because of what he was able to do with him his senior season. McDoormat never utilized him to his full abilities, so Hoiberg helped him average more points, assists, etc. Fred will get the best out of you to prepare you for the next level. Your prime examples are Garrett and White.

Look, it's possible for both parties to be wrong here. The Strib's article was poorly researched and investigated, and was just spewing out theories that many people in this town have privately held for a while. But my thought tends to be that if you're trying to run an article like that, you've got to have something other than speculation. Basically, the Strib is a terrible newspaper, with an even worse sports page, and print media can't die in this town soon enough for me.

But on the other hand, this is clearly Rashad trying to get Gopher fans mad at the Strib when we had no real chance. You'd have to be pretty naive in my opinion to not see that Rashad's recruitment is about as filthy as it gets right now. Whichever team ends up with him will automatically be entered in my Kentucky, Baylor, West Virginia top-five dirty program list, because this process has smelled strongly of impropriety. So it's clear that Rashad wasn't interested in coming here. In a way, that's made it easier. I'm more upset with how Reid handled his recruitment than Rashad or Tyus. We always knew that Tyus wanted to be on the "big stage" with his buddy. I'll not be a fan of his, but whatever, I can understand it. Rashad (and his people) are in it for the under-the-table money. Okay, I don't think much of their character, but they're not the first and they'll not be the last. Reid inviting the Gophers fans, pretending they were in the mix, to drum up local interest in his self-serving announcement? That galled me.

Are you guys all ready to be a "dirty program?" This one made me giggle.
