We took my daughter over to a friend's house yesterday to play. My jaw dropped as we pull up to their security gate. They live about 5 minutes from us and I'd never seen their place before due to its location. With the house, land, landscaping and multi-tiered heated pool, I'd say it was easily a $2.5 million residence. It's one thing to step into houses that run $700,000 to $1M, but this was on another level.

As I pulled out of the gate to leave, I had to wait as a few cars passed by. It had to look like I just got done robbing the place as I pulled out with my dirty Camry.

Years ago we had a family that had a big fireworks business living in the neighborhood. They were doing a big fireworks show at the swanky Lafayette Country Club on Lake Minnetonka. I missed the invite and got a call from neighbors already there. My response, no can do..car is broken down and I am stranded at home. Response, you got a key to our house, go get our old Toyota. I won't have wanted to get caught dead in that ride anywhere, let alone a country club. Thirty minutes later I am pulling up to valet parking at the country club driving an old white Corolla with rusted out everything...a total POS ride. Cool.

Bonus, got to shoot off a couple big mortars to launch some big rockets.

I had never heard of Simon Estes until today and, quite frankly, I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that one of the mos renowned opera singers in the world is from Iowa.

So my dad kinda took a winding path to end up at Iowa State. Immediately after HS he enlisted in the Army because he knew there would be a draft anyway. Did his time, then went to college on the GI Bill. For some reason he started off at the U of I, and Simon Estes was there at the same time. Can't remember if he was actually in any classes with him or just a "I was there at the same time" kinda thing. Like me and Fred.

Anyway, he only attended the U of I for a short time then started at Iowa State and went to school when he wasn't as busy farming. He has all sorts of stories of places he lived and places he bartended while in school.

Southern Iowa represent. Is anyone from Centerville famous besides Simon Estes?

He’s been on staff at ISU, sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone” at son’s ISU commencement, and sings often at games including a football halftime this year.

I think he sang at a couple things when DH and I were in the choirs there. May have been just DH. I think he sang with the men's choir for an event maybe.

Don't have to play Santa this year, that is nice. Remembered this morning because I was told that woman that seemed to get a little too friendly with santa is now separated from her husband. Maybe the third time will be the charm for her, but she is loony so who knows.

Maybe it's time to rent the Santa suit and give her a special delivery. ;)

Another complaint about KCRG. I don't want to hear every anchor say to the meteorologist comments about how much they don't like snow. You live in Iowa in the winter it is going to happen. I get that they mean it in a fun way but everyone saying it every time gets old. Damn I am getting cranky in my old age.

Ah, Badger, home address of my not Boxster drivers license I used to get into bars. 218 Maher Street, Badger, Iowa. Thought it was lost and gone but found it recently in a stack of old baseball cards.
I had several friends from Badger and I don't believe there was a Maher Street in Badger. Obviously a forgery to those of us who know our way around the 4 or 5 streets of Badger.

My small-town parents came up here a couple of years ago to attend a wedding of a daughter of one of their best friends at a "golf course on Lake Minnetonka". It turns out that it was at the Lafayette Club and the daughter married the CFO of General Mills.

I'll one up you here. I was at ISU at the same time as Velo, Lawman, BC and, maybe Cooler.

Kid comes home from school, gift for Mom but not dad. Now 5 for 5 with gifts for Mom and not dad at this school.
In first grade, I remember making a snow globe at school out of a jar and moth balls. Turns out my mom was allergic to moth balls. That wasn't her favorite Christmas gift ever.

Mike Morris was the long-time long snapper for the Minnesota Vikings. He's a minor celebrity in the Twin Cities for that and being a radio personality.

Had an incident play out that started out odd and twisted to a bad situation.

I still get pages for the ambulance, always think about rejoining some so I haven't told them to take me off. Have a strange page go through that just is odd. I ask the wife who lives at the address and next morning (she walks every morning with a friend) she tells me she thinks it's this couple we know. The wife is a co-worker of hers.

I look up their name in the phone book and there it is. I show the text to my wife and she goes to work. By end of the day wife determines it could be domestic abuse by what's happening and going around at work.

Sticky part, I received info that is confidential and undiscloseable. Wife can't fully confirm it, but knowing there is marital issues and hearing of verbal abuse. High probability. Wife reached out to our pastor who we get the feeling has been doing counseling with them and spoke with him. Now it's best to probably chat with a couple of former co-ambulance people to see if we can sort this out.

Page description is an either being helpful or nasty either/or type. Plus it's confidential, but you want to make sure you do what's right if it is

These things blow.
