So, we made some amazing progress for our anxious girl at school last week. She was joining the group, eating, talking to other kids, getting herself ready for school, and running to the building. All it took was buying into an idea that a Batman watch would be a good reminder and encouragement.

Then her teacher mentioned something very bluntly that we still could work out, and that something is a very fearful and anxious reaction.

So, Z didn't really want to get ready, walked slowly and dutifully with me to the building, and headed off resigned to her fate. It's pretty heartbreaking that we can't find a teacher with basic people skills yet, but we can't.
She'll get to meet new people, make some new friends and then realize she gets to come back home to mom and dad at the end of the day. Everything will be all right.

The concert was great. Joan Jett can still really rock it at age 61. Heart was excellent also, although Ann Wilson struggled some with the high notes - she had pretty much run out of gas by the end. Their first encore was a note for note rendition of the Led Zeppelin classic Stairway to Heaven.....I'm not normally a fan of anyone doing that song other than the Zep, but they aced it. Second encore was (How Do I Get You)Alone, and they ended the night with, of course, Barracuda. Earlier they started singing Heard It Through the Grapevine, and morphed it into Straight On, which was cool.

Joan Jett did a couple fun things, too - their rendition of the Mary Tyler Moore theme, and a rockin' version of the old Tommy James classic Crimson and Clover. I think Joan had a cold or something - she kept turning around to blow her nose - but you'd never guess it the way she sang and performed. The audience loved her. .
Fun fact - my older sister knew the Wilsons from high school music interaction. Nancy went to Interlake, Ann went to Sammamish, my sis went to Bellevue (Bellevue had four large high schools in the 70s; the fourth was Newport). They combined often for contests and for All-City music festivals

That's not how this works. She'll stand in the corner, cry, and hide under the tables. This **** breaks her badly.

Long experience has shown me that it won't be OK. We have a long road of rebuilding to do from one bad conversation. It will be far from OK.

I had occasional issues with teachers when my boys were in elementary school - they were one grade apart. The older one was rather pedantic, solid, slow & steady. The younger was pretty much six ways to Sunday. Teachers expected son #2 to be just like son #1, and would be negative in responses to him when he didn't follow their expected pattern.
They had to be handled differently...and a few teachers failed to recognize that.

In that case I wish her all the best and hope she get's through this eventually

Is there any kind of school counselor or mediator at that level?

There is. We have a meeting coming up, and I think she'll be part of it.
There are a lot of questions out there about effectiveness at 6, but it's possible.

I really think our biggest problem will be insurmountable, which is a teacher who's been there a really long time and probably won't accept her own need to change her personal touch. So far, she hasn't yet indicated anything about her own approach. It's really about blaming the child.

I'm keeping my expectations low right now about adult responses. Thus far, it's very disappointing.

I wish you luck! My son's reactions weren't quite as severe as Z's, but I did have to counteract the teachers' negativity at times, and it made for "interesting" parent/teacher conferences at times. One in particular mentioned older son's name more than younger son in the conference, and she currently had younger son in her class. That one was probably the worst of the bunch. I called her out on it, and things got marginally better.

I think the older generation on both sides of our family worked her over much worse than we realized, and my health struggles contributed a huge amount of anxiety to things. But we're in a spot right now where those factors are minimized.

I expect this meeting to be a bit colorful, because I'm going to have to point the finger this time. I know that people generally don't like that, and they really hate it from me, since I'm kind of expected to be the jolly doormat.

Seems like things shouldn't have to be that difficult.

Once you get used to being the *** it becomes kinda enjoyable. Nothing like tension filling the room when you walk in and you start laughing and it freaks everyone else out.

Experience I have had is let them speak or it will be all defensive on their side.

I've been the ass many, many times.
The way this one will go down is a moment of introductions, they will discuss their observations, examine it from a behaviorist-only standpoint, and then I'll have to reveal my own knowledgeable observations as to how this happens.

Depending on how today goes, Z and I may take a mental health day tomorrow. We'll see.

Dogs are back to normal. Looks like the biggest issue was the 1.5" X 1.5" piece of hoof that Emma some how swallowed, couldnt pass, then puked back up. Assuming they both had something that didnt agree with them while at the farm. Probably didnt need to go to the vet, but better safe tham sorry.

Good (bad?) news is they love the fancy new (expensive) dog food. Going to get them fattened before this weekend.

Yeah, Minnesota pheasant opener this weekend. I get to deal with dumb or lying Minnesota folks who say they didn’t know they were two miles into Iowa.

Erik or Rev, could you ask for Z to be moved to a different class either immediately or at the quarter/semester?

Son has interviews coming in the next week for internships already. Think I didn’t interview for any until like February. Have they gotten earlier and earlier?
