IDK about you, but I'm turning 63 next week, and retirement is looking better and better all the time. Guess I'm getting grumpy from almost 40 years of dealing with trying to make things perfect for customers.

However.....at present, it looks like 67 will be the earliest I can afford to pull the pin. :(

I just turned 60 about two weeks ago. I feel your pain about retirement. I'm shooting for 63 right now, but it'll depend on the stock market and my wife. I have discussed a part-time position (couple days a week estimating construction projects) with the owners, to help with insurance. We'll see.

Does anyone remember drivers licenses without the driver's picture on them? I don't but have heard about them. That just doesn't seem to be very useful since it would be pretty easy to steal and use someone else's document.
I used to use someone else's document to go drinking when the legal age was 18. No pic. Just had to memorize the info on the license. Actually it was passed down to me from another guy that turned 18, so he didn't need it any more.

Since we are discussing fake ID's (not the TOE variety) I'll add a cool story bro. A group of ISU students was in New Orleans for a conference. A couple of us (not me thankfully) got more than a bit stupid and wound up at gun point in a dark alley in the French Quarter. While the robber was rifling through one guy's wallet, the wallet's owner begged him, not for his life or petty things like that, but instead said "take everything, but please leave my fake ID".

A couple of days ago I saw the city put up some cones and blocked off a section of the main road going to my neighborhood. Being that the road is scheduled to be completely rebuilt starting in 6 months I found it hard to believe they were going to patch a section. Then I drove by. I bet the first person to hit that got quite a surprise.

We had a couple of those pop up last summer on a 4 lane that no one follows the speed limit. That's still the only time I've seen that road at or below the speed limit (sans winter conditions). I bet the first person who hit the sucker at 65 had a nice flight.

there was something like this right at the end of a merge for an on-ramp last night. Probably 2-3 wide all buckled up and broken. Just about hit it because I was starting to come over to merge in as no cars coming up that lane. Would have been super great.

In today's clash of parenting styles, Z and I visited the Bookmobile again.
Z was looking at a graphic novel, had it in her hands, and a mom came in with her two boys.

They gravitated to that section, and the mom fired off "We're not reading graphic novels. Our books are over here."
As they walked over, Z did what Z will do and figured she was wrong. She put that one back too quickly, but we kept looking while I egged her on to get whatever she wanted.

I'm sure the mom there was thinking something like "serious books only, to encourage serious reading later." Z recovered with a stack of DC Super Hero Girls graphic novels and some videos.

I was hoping that the mom would say something about how graphic novels prevent people from becoming serious readers, just so I could say, "That's how I started. Sure, I only have a heavy reading PhD, but I think reading what you want will get someone reading."

But it didn't work out. Z and the boys played, talked, and laughed, and I didn't get to make a jerk of myself.

My girls love graphic novels. We frequent the Bookmobile a lot and one of the librarians asked my 8yr old if she thought they should carry more graphic novels on the Bookmobile. Of course she said yes. The other day at the library a graphic novel she wanted was upstairs in the adult books. She grabbed a Mickey Mouse graphic novel from up there, too. Then the 6yr old was mad that she didn’t get to pick out a graphic novel from upstairs (the youth/young adult graphic novels are all on the first floor).

Yes, that's how it works in Iowa, too. They gave me a copy and told me to keep and carry it with my expired one. I was kinda leery when I went up to the security guy at DSM that day. But I probably confused him unnecessarily by trying to explain what I was giving him. I should have just kept quiet and only answered his questions. No big deal and I passed with flying colors :)

I figured out about a week before we flew over spring break that my license was going to expire. I did all the paperwork for a Read ID (birth certificate, marriage certificate, SS card, proof of residency). When I got my temporary paper license I asked about flying with that. She said in DSM they see it and know it is valid. She didn’t know how well an out-of-State airport would handle it. Thankfully my license came the day before we flew.

Lincoln Way did that in several places a few years ago, right next to Hilton. I don't remember how long ago, but I was still working at the time so it had to be 2017 or before.

Are they in the mountains yet? Haven't even seen any of it yet. Good summer for French inn keepers between the women's World Cup and the Tour.

Not the southern mountains but really hilly area. Finished on 20% grade. On gravel. After a day of climbs. Kinda gimmicky but interesting.

Just turned on Stage 7. Channel flipping to find it I stumbled on some guy talking about President Lincoln. And, yup, how he was guided and influenced by extraterrestrials. JFC. :(
