The band played at the Ankeny/Gilbert baseball game last night. Unfortunately it was a close game and Gilbert lost by walking a run in. :( The reliever they brought in is the son of a good friend of mine. He came in with runners on first and second in the bottom of the 7th. Only the third loss on the season for the baseball team.
A reliever really needs nerves of steel because so many times they come into a lousy situation.

For @wxman1 , @Cybirdy , and @cyhiphopp

So I stopped at the Strawberry Patch in Ankeny on my way home today. Walked out of the store, and stopped dead in my tracks. I heard....a Dr. Beat...which was then followed by some drumline. I thought I had gotten rid of that sound from so long ago out of my head. Thanks Ankeny HS marching band!

(FYI, for those of you completely in the dark, go to this website and click on 160 bpm. That's what I was hearing.)

Edit: Or, just hit the play button. Woo hoo. Three posts in a row.

Oh, FYI you were probably hearing a Drum Corps drum line rehearse.
Celebration in Brass is tonight at the Ankeny Football Stadium. The drum corps are likely housed at a bunch of the nearby high schools.

A lot of good corps are going to be there. Bluecoats, Santa Clara Vangaurd, Blue Stars, Mandarins, Colts, and The Academy. (listed by current rankings)

I kind of want to go but we have a lot going on this week.

How is the daughter's softball team doing?

I can still hear Dr Beat in my head and drumline cadences from ISUCF'V'MB and the Dubuque Colts. Some things I just don't forget.
I forget where I parked sometimes and appointments and all that other trivial stuff, but I could tap out 120 bpm like nobodies business.

Having the ability to march backwards (walk backwards) and then switching directions has come in surprisingly handy as an adult.

Ohhhhhh. I thought the drumline sounded awfully good for mid-July. They'll have a nice night for marching, compared to several other nights I'm sure they've had or will have.

Tomorrow starts regionals. If they win, they will hit 20 wins for the season. Our school did not have 20 wins in the last 4 seasons combined. This year we also played the second most number of games of any 4A team (by design—new coach wanted them to get lots of experience). Right now we are at 19-20 and I think we ended up 3rd in our conference.

Alright, correct thread

Emma is back home and surprisingly fairly energetic. Has to go back in a couple weeks to get her stitches out. Also on a strong regimen of pain meds and antibiotics with orders to take it easy.

Funny! I WAS kind of curious why you posted it in the other one!

I hated marching band. Endless practices (mostly in the heat of summer), those godawful wool uniforms, a goofy hat that made your head wobble like a bobble-head doll, and so on.

The only good part about marching band was our trip to Winnipeg my junior year to perform in a competition. That was fun.

We had black wool uniforms. We marched in The Rose Bowl Parade, the National Bicentennial so those trips were pretty cool.
