Wherever I go, there I am.
Yeah, that is the math that always has me scratching my head. When it is something like for every $1 you spend on tax enforcement you get back some ridiculous amount like $10 of recovered revenue why would you ever decrease the budget?* Having adequate staffing would allow them to review some of those spurious notices that Lawman is talking about decreasing they bad pub.

*I know the answer why, but that is a political discussion for the cave...

I don't like paying for seed corn so I am going to only plant half as much seed in my fields this year.
Their mission is to raise revenue. Justice is not part of the equation, so I sincerely doubt more budget for staff would decrease spurious notices. It would probably result in more! : )

I don't pay any medical bills until I get an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from my insurance company so I can match up what the provider is charging and what the insurance company covered. Sometimes the provider squawks because they don't get the "payment due upon receipt", but I have never had good luck getting anything back without a long dragged out fight if overpaid.

There is one hospital in Des Moines that I am pretty sure I will die in an ambulance before I willingly go to because I made the mistake of giving them money on the way out the door one time even though we had insurance. We gave far less than what we would owe but they just applied it to one of the many bills and the bill was less than the total amount we paid that day. I kept asking them what happened to the other $200 and they claimed to be working on it as they sent us to collections.

I fought one for so long (two years) that the ACA went into effect and what they were fighting was then pulled into preventative care and I think they just wrote it off or something. They eventually gave up and stopped trying to bill me - the hospital AND insurance. So I think I won.

and the amberlamps people had the wrong insurance. Don't ask me how everything else billed that day and days following through the same hospital system was correct. All I care about is that it's hopefully dealt with.

Nothing like a 2:30 AM phone call about a truck being stuck. Worse yet, wasted my time trying (and failing) to get him out. Only positive is its my closest site.

Former DIL made ticket arrangements for our granddaughter (who has been staying with us for a few days). We are putting her on a plane to Virginia in a little bit. She chose a 6.30a flight. We're 40 minutes from the airport. Granddaughter is not pleased to be rousted from bed this early. Neither is grandmother...

75th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion today. Was at Utah Beach for the 50th Anniversary 25 years ago with my dad who had landed there June 11, 1944.

Can't believe that was 25 years ago already.
My dad was in the Pacific theater. He was part of the naval force that took Okinawa.

He described that to me in the middle of the night in the hospital. He jumped out of bed and grabbed my notebook and pen. I had no idea where this was going when he started drawing and then I realized he was going to start talking about the war. He never talked about battles before. So he explained how it all went down in great detail, then got back in bed and went back to sleep.

Okinawa was the last ocean battle. After that, the last obstacle was Japan itself. Truman and the military brass decided a conventional battle would cost too many lives - on both sides - and so the famous decision to drop Little Boy and Fat Man.

I don't even take the 8:00 because you're still getting up at crazy dark o'clock especially if international.

They decided to jackhammer and replace the pavement around the sewer manhole in front of my house this morning. Was a window rattler.

The crazy thing is that while the Allied forces were staging the largest amphibious landing in history in Normandy, they had another amphibious force 71,000 men strong en route to Saipan for another amphibious assault.
