Just wanted you all to know that yesterday I went in for a routine physical and before I left I agreed to the first (of two) shingles shots this year. A little trepidation based on what I've heard and read here, but so far just a slight soreness when I rub that area of my arm. Hope that's the extent of the potential bad side effects. At least I didn't get hives.
Only two alleys in the whole neighborhood, maybe in the whole city and I live on one. Rare enough that substitute snow plow drivers don't know they are there and forget to plow them.![]()
JC is so invaluable to the country that he would never experience a cessation of pay.JC are you still good with the shutdown? Hard to see all of these controllers not getting paid.
Yeah, probably should since I don't know which variant I had. All I can remember is that my liver function numbers (per my doctor) were "off the chart".Go with papaLew and see if you can get a 2fer discount. Seriously, if you know you have had it, it would probably be prudent to at least get screened for it.
I've heard that it was actually a bastardization of the original "flutterby", but that could just be a convenient urban legend. That would also support your drunk theory since I could easily say "butterfly" when trying to say "flutterby" if I was in the tank.
I think I may have used that button a grand total of twice. I just never used it but instead went to the next page or went back to the previous page.Does anyone else ever miss the "back to top" button we used to have in the old format?

Doesn't completely prevent...reduces the likelihood, and if you DO get shingles after being vaccinated (like me) they're generally a milder case. I had a paw print sized spread of welts on the left side of my back, right at the waist line. Kind of itchy burny, and uncomfortable with snug waistbands, but never expanded to the open acid-burn type lesions they show on the TV commercials.I've had shingles.....if the shot keeps you from getting them, it's worth it!
I've always thought that valuable meant something had a common but dear value while invaluable meant that it was beyond valuable. Like maybe something that you couldn't put a price to.Do valuable and invaluable mean the same thing? Like flammable and inflammable?
Interesting. As a child, I called them flutterbyes. Still do, on occasion.I've heard that it was actually a bastardization of the original "flutterby", but that could just be a convenient urban legend. Is 50 the age when they recommend the vac? I have been to the medico several times in the last year and a half and they have never once recommended it.Doesn't completely prevent...reduces the likelihood, and if you DO get shingles after being vaccinated (like me) they're generally a milder case. The first one I got (Zostavax) was approved for 50+, recommended for 60+. Seems to me I was around 59 or 60 when I got it (damned failing memory!).Is 50 the age when they recommend the vac? I have been to the medico several times in the last year and a half and they have never once recommended it.
LOL.The first one I got (Zostavax) was approved for 50+, recommended for 60+. Seems to me I was around 59 or 60 when I got it (damned failing memory!).
The second one I got (Shingrix, last fall) is recommended for 50+. It's more effective than Zostavax, and is a two-shot vaccine (2-6 months apart). They are recommending that people get the Shingrix vaccine regardless of whether they already had the Zostavax. The problem they are having is the supply levels of Shingrix. Our medical records are on a web based "My Chart" function with McFarland clinic (and Mary Greeley hospital), where most of our medical needs are met. They send out notifications based on age & medical history. For example, they sent me notifications regarding the Pneumonia vaccine due to my age and mild asthma and history of having pnuemonia 3 times. Your doctor may be waiting for a year or two (if you are an atypical male and get annual physicals!). Lew & I actually asked to get the shingles vaccines. We had a friend who got a very severe case and that was enough to push us to protect ourselves.![]()
I had shingles several years ago. Had no idea what it was because it wasn't widespread and wasn't horrible feeling. However, by the time I went to see my doctor it was too late to get the shot. I've had the shot once since then, and now there are two. I think truly I've been fortunate to NOT have gotten it again.I've had shingles.....if the shot keeps you from getting them, it's worth it!
See my post above. The vaccines are different, and the first was not as effective as the new one is reported to be.I had shingles several years ago.
