Lew the environmentalist...Nope. But he got the house warm enough that the AC that he forgot to turn off kicked on,

As far as I know, I have never had a stroke, but I still get a lot of reminding from Mrs. Velo. But I'm still the only one of us to can seem to remember how old I am, how old she is, and how many years we have been married.Lew, the man whose short-term memory has weakened a bit post-stroke.
I can't tell him more than two things at a time, so I do a LOT of reminding...
Sometimes it can also be hearing loss. There are a lot of people who start to have hearing loss and instead of getting it dealt with will just try to cope. Many will stop asking "What?" and just ignore it if they can't hear what is said.My mom thinks my dad has dementia or Alzheimer's setting in some. I don't necessarily disagree but I also think she gets worked up quick about having to say things multiple times etc.
Not all memory loss is a result of dementia or Alzheimer's. Almost all of my senior friends are more forgetful than they used to be...and that includes me. It's just a product of aging, fewer synapses moving slower in the brain...My mom thinks my dad has dementia or Alzheimer's setting in some. I don't necessarily disagree but I also think she gets worked up quick about having to say things multiple times etc.
I'm getting a full hearing exam in early December...mostly to shut Lew up. He maintains that I'm half-deaf because I always say "what". I do have some hearing loss (based on a similar exam about 15 years ago). My problem is that I can hear high-pitched noises like a telephone ringing at the other end of the hall at work, but I have a harder time hearing low-pitched noises...and in a crowded situation with a lot of ambient noise, all bets are off.Sometimes it can also be hearing loss. I know with my moderate hearing loss I will ask what? once, maybe twice and if I don't think what was said was earth shatteringly important will just move on if I still didn't hear it.
Yeah, I know, I should probably look into it. The last time I asked a physician about it all he did was rub two fingers together near my ear and say, "Can you hear that?" "Yes." "You're fine." That doesn't address the problem I have with intelligibility, but whatever, Doc. I'm pretty sure most of my loss is in the higher frequencies and that isn't what that country doc test detects.

Here's the deal, though: a) he mutters b) he never looks to see if he has my attention, and c) he has a low tone voice that is fairly quiet and often talks to me from another room.
So, we'll see what the doc has to say. If I'm right, Lew promises to make an effort to quit blaming me when I don't hear what he says. Heh...we'll see how long THAT lasts!![]()
I can identify! That's OUR conversations in a nutshell. How interactions with Mrs. Velo often go. Written as what I hear.
MV - Hey, Velo, did you hear about the thing? !#%#%^&7 &$%^#@#$
V - What?
MV - I said did you hear about the thing? !@##% #$%^ #$%^&&#$%&(
V - I'm sorry, what?
MV - I SAID DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE THING!!!!
She generally starts off strong and trails off. When I indicate I didn't hear she does exactly the same thing or just repeats the part I heard. She then gets mad when I tell her she didn't get any louder with the part that trailed off and I couldn't hear.
I've started using this line after these interactions:

Sometimes it's true, dear. The typical wife approach, it’s him and not me..
What?Sometimes it's true, dear.
Uh...I don't think that is the flex you think it is...Also, most of my conversations are with myself and, since I speak clearly, I 100% hear myself and respond.![]()
They never play a tone for those. They want you to think you can’t hear. If you’re hearing stuff, you may want to check them checked. The hearing loss discussion is interesting. I am pretty fortunate my "sensors" still work pretty well. I do notice it when I am around my old people peers. They have the TV sound turned up way too high for my tastes. I was constantly turning the sound down at my sister's house. When they give me the elder "Can you hear this tone" test I know they are expecting "No" but get "Yes". I do have trouble with conversations in noisy bars but I've always had that. Think that's a "software" issue and not a hardware issue.

New pet peeve people who listen to a podcast in public spaces (hotel breakfast area.) With no ear buds so we all get to hear. Sigh.
