The thing is, the call wasn’t either of those. I’ve heard barred owls, even two at the same time. The call was a single sound - a little higher pitch which then went down slightly. Reminded me of the shape of a candy cane.
Locate the call of a juvenile barred owl. They have a single tone sliding scale "begging call"...starts high then drops to a low gurgle.

Just listened to a few of those. What I heard was more of a single sound, no hoos or hoots or scratchy-raspiness. Maybe I’ll just stay awake again tonight and try to use my Merlin bird ID on it.

My huaband is a bit beside himself as his "top 3" football teams are undefeated this month

Ottumwa: 5-0
Iowa State: 4-0
Vikings: 4-0

He just hopes they all don't take a nosedive all at once.

Per Creedence Clearwater Revival, this might be a hoodoo. Especially if your hound dogs is barking and chasing in the Skunk River bayou.

Dang...

I woke up this morning with the left side of my tongue so swollen I couldn't even spit when brushing my teeth. It's almost back to normal now (3 hours later), with just a residual thickness in the left side of my neck just under the jaw line.

It's been several years since the last time I got these hives episodes. I hope they're not starting up again. For a while it was my left tongue, or my right upper lip up to the top of my cheekbone. My doc has no clue what triggers them, but Zyrtec seems to do the best job of getting me back to normal. It's not stress or food related...it just...happens. It's annoying as hell, though.

Crazy this game isn't sold out yet.

Night game and people won't be able to get out of the parking lot till after midnight so maybe they are going to watch on TV. ;)

There's an alumni reception I've been invited to Friday night so I am tempted to come down but would have to stay in Ankeny or something. Going to be a last minute decision, might go down and than drive home Saturday morning.

Note to self. Maybe check email in case there is something in the inbox other than junk, spam and phishing attempts.
