what year was it when we rode right along the Mizzou border? Like 4 years ago-ish ... that was a hilly-*****. My knee's still remind me of that route.

Last few years have been a cake-walk, maybe they want to thin the herd?

I think it lacks a clear party town for an overnight stop, or at least access to one nearby.

While all towns are fun in their own right. Some are better than others. See Ames last year for example.

Council Bluffs
Red Oak
Greenfield
Indiananola
Chariton
Ottumwa
Mt Pleasant
Burlington

A little more hills than the past few years.

Ottumwa??
Might need red-cross to treat people after they leave that down for all sorts of stuff

Oh, and if you are riding through Ottumwa for RAGBRAI...watch out for Hogs! The last time we went to Ottumwa we were on a 4 lane in town and someone hit a hog in the middle of the road...and it wasn't a little pip-squeek hog...it was a big ol' one and it was drooling out the mouth. Pretty funny

Other than that...as someone else mentioned, it lacks that big-time overnight town

Ottumwa's not much different than anywhere else but stay out of the strip club downtown, it ain't pretty.

Is anybody putting a team together? Possibly a Cyclone Fanatic team? This will be the 1st year my wife and I ride and currently it is just us two. PM if so! Thanks.

Not sure what this "big town" you guys are looking for? I've ridden the last 8 RAGBRAIs ... there's just not many "big" towns in Iowa. This route is pretty much like every other route in terms of town size, a few decently big, a few pretty small.

Glad to see others share my thoughts on SCottUMwa. I'd love to go with a Cyclone Fanatic team...however, I don't think I will be able to go at all this year.

actually ottumwa was okay in 2000...there was naked beer slides on trays inside the bar I was in with people pouring beer on the floor to make it slick. Often on RAGBRAI the best towns aren't the ames, iowa city type but a town like ottumwa with a bunch of townie bars...at least for the riders. For those of you that don't ride and just show up to party you likely prefer the ames, iowa city type towns but RAGBRAI doesn't change those places much...it is pretty much the same scene but RAGBRAI can transform a smaller medium sized town into legendary for a night.

Just for the record, technically the route hasn't been announced, just the overnight towns. I don't recall when the actual route is announced, but I think it is another month or two.
