Seeing some great articles from the CF staff, but it seems like crickets before the first game. A lot of parking passes and tickets trading hands. Yet it seems very subdued even if we have a named qb from the past and a mangenius new staff. The new faces make for a quiet start after a three win season. Seems like this has been the lowest key start of the the CPR era or is the enthusiasm still there but hidden?

This first game is against a good team who have been national champions three years in a row. They pound the ball and they play tough on defense. This is a big test for the new staff members and a must win for the rest/success of the season. Another UNI debacle would be a crusher.

    What do you think?

I honestly think for about half of us who are pretty optimistic about the season the enthusiasm is there but hidden. We are also tired of arguing on message boards and as a result have been quiet recently.

I'm in wait and see mode. If we lay an egg and get beat by another FCS school, I will be pretty checked out on football. If we come out and look good and beat NDSU, I'll start getting excited. Last year really burned watching us get pushed around by UNI and Iowa. Then basketball was so much fun I have put football on the back burner for now. Hopefully they can win my passion back. For now, I'll wait and see what happens and cheer them on.

My opinion is I'm very, very excited for football season to be here, very, very excited to be at the Jack on Saturday, and very, very nervous about the game.

This is the least excited I've seen this board for the first game since I've joined.

The schedule just puts so much pressure on this team. Much like last year, you lose your first game to an FBS opponent and the wheels can fall off. You look at that 6-7 win mark, you aren't getting there without winning this one. I think that's the reason for all the nervousness. If you're Iowa and you go lay an egg against UNI, you've still got 9-10 winnable games left on that schedule.

To be fair, people have been dreading this matchup for the last 2 years or so.

I am more curious if we are going to be good or bad. well know everything we need to after Saturday I think. not much will change from week 1 to week 2 and beyond except for maybe some refinement of things.

I can tell you this, I either leave the game saying "BRING ON K-STATE" or "we may not win a game this year."

I think a lot of people have their butt puckered and it's hard to make noise when doing that.

This team is still a year away- that's why. Too much youth on defense, and a new playbook to absorb.

There's plenty of reason for optimism in the future with the younger classes and Mangino's posse, tho. Find a couple stud juco D linemen, and we could be back in business.

I just don't see it this year. The first three ground & pound teams are gonna punch our interior D right in the mouth. Then our young safeties are going to bite on play fakes. Gonna get ugly fast.

Last season I saw everything I needed to see against UNI. My expectations were really low and they were immediately met in the opener.

This year isn't so cut and dried. I don't expect the offense to be explosive running a new system the first few games, but the potential is there for some breakout games later in the season. The D I have really low expectations with all the youth and inexperience at LB and S. They might look better than they are in the first 3 games playing slow-it-down power run offenses, but will likely get abused by the better big 12 offenses. The schedule doesn't look all that bad. NDSU, Toledo, WV and Kansas are all very winnable games. KSU, Iowa, TT and TCU are games we could win if they don't play well or we play great. The rest look like double digit losses outside of a Nebraska style meltdown.

I forsee a gritty 5-7 type season with a couple headscratching wins and losses. I won't really be all that upset if we only win 3 or 4, it's kind of a 2nd rebuild year. If they play themselves into a 7th loss in early Nov, them my attention moves to Hoiball.

I am excited. This week can't go fast enough for me. with that being said I wish it was a night game because I love the atmosphere at night games! I am not nervous about this game, the guys will come out ready and punch NDSU in the face. I think the defense is going to surprise alot of people on here.

Gawd I hope so. I think there's plenty of potential there, but it's hard not to be nervous when you see the two deep littered with freshmen & sophomores plus a former walk-on.
