Trae had a lot of turnovers but his assist/turnover ratio was still 1.66

For reference:
Weiler-Babb 2.71
Wigginton 0.96
Jackson 1.29
Talley 1.60

Kennan Evans 1.66

Everyone on Oklahoma beside Trae 0.76

Assists per game? Lol. Next you’ll use points per game in support of the usage rate being optimal.

He led the nation in assist rate too. In fact, almost 5% higher than 2nd place.

Note: Minimum 40% minutes played to qualify.

Another problem Young had was on the defensive end he gambled a lot for steals. He just didn't play smart. Chucking 3s when he didn't need to instead of looking for a better shot, careless turnovers, gambling on defense. As the season progressed and he was getting all the hype you also started to hear him in interviews mainly just talk about himself and not the team which ESPN helped perpetuate with the tracker and the when a Big 12 team played them it would be advertised as KU v. Trae Young etc.

In a league like the Big 12, there are going to be a lot of close games and turnovers, bad shots etc can make a huge difference. I also think it seemed like he got more calls early in the year and near the end refs were figuring out his tricks. But all this being said, we are talking about a very gifted player. he is damn good. I just think Kruger did a piss poor job in helping become a better player and teammate.

Anyone else remember when halfway through the season (aka when the losing started) people kept clamoring for fellow ISU fans to keep Oklahoma in mind (since they were bad last year) as an example of better things being on the horizon?

Yikes. Talk about an ice-cold take.

Damn Lon, how could you let others handle the ball? Young could have had a 100% assist rate if actually used exclusively, but OU’s record would have been even worse.

Cloneteach, a few thoughts:
> I assume Young already has an agent, but, if not, good luck (hope you can enjoy a little levity)
> Can you honestly say that:
--- You enjoyed watching OU play throughout the year (I had to turn away as the year went on as Young dominated the ball with less success; heck, my 8th-grader was recording his games early/mid-year to watch and later in the year wouldn't even turn him on live)?
--- You wouldn't have been extremely frustrated as a teammate of his?

Even tho' OU had a rough 2016/2017, I was impressed with their young talent in McGusty and... think it was Doolittle... can't even remember the other guy's name b/c it was all "Young" this year... seriously... #s 11 & 20 from 2016/2017.

How many more pseudo turnovers did he have because he jacked up stupid contested shots that had no chance of going in?

The guy was a cancer.

>Young probably does have an agent, most NBA lottery picks do.
>They ran a quick efficient offense. It was more fun when they were winning, but that is true of most teams.
>Frustrated or jealous? Improving by 7 wins over one season is a great accomplishment. If my goal as a player was to put up my own stats, yes I would have been frustrated. If my goal as a player was to win games, no I wouldn't have been as frustrated.

Coaching is a perishable skill and he’ll be 66 this summer. This was also Year 7 at OU and Kruger has never stayed at a place longer than that.

Kruger has coached college ball at 6 different schools. He took 5 of them to the Dance. Only Tubby Smith had done that.
