From what I hear, we'll likely pick up 2 with immediate eligibility and 1 is reserved for Diallo and as a backup. I think you'll see some familiar names in the potential pipeline and it should pan out to be a good recruiting cycle. It'll be really nice to plug some much needed holes and provide depth in other areas. We have a strong team for next year, but not that much room for error, the recruits being talked about can definitely help us.

2 with immediate eligibility, plus the possibility of Diallo, or are you considering Diallo as one of those 2 with immediate eligibility?

I would have thought that the only way we take an immediate eligible transfer, is if we don't get Diallo.

Things are changing.

Hmm, surprised to hear that they're looking at guys with immediate eligibility. I figured they'd want at least 1 guy that sits out.

The backup if Diallo doesn't come would most likely be sit out. The comment about 2 likely for immediate eligibility also isn't set in stone. If the staff really likes a guy and they decide they're comfortable with the depth for next year, they'll take him. That is why I hate saying anything about recruiting because what you hear today can and will change slightly by tomorrow, all depending on who is available and how things are moving. Think of all recruiting comments as a point-in-time scenario, not a definitive strategy.

Was reading some more stuff on this and found this quote from Swagberg and thought the bold was interesting:

“He recruits all over the map,” Hoiberg said, “not only local kids, but he’s done very good in Canada and has helped get some really top-level players to Iowa State.”

I guess I just never realized that the Canadian pipeline might have ended with Coach Otz leaving. I'm glad to have it back, it's a big way for ISU to differentiate itself from other programs with the success our Canucks have had. Hopefully that opens back up with TJ back in the fold.

All I know is we wanted next year's team to be not just very good, but great. Imo, Diallo is sounding more and more unlikely. So, regardless that we could use a couple guys to transfer in and sit out to have them ready for when the senior class graduates, we really need an eligible big for this upcoming season. Hope Otz/Fred can still find one that can contribute to help next years team be better than good. But understandable if they don't. Every team out there seem to want/need them.

We will be just fine if we dont have an eligible Big for next year outside what we have actually. Getting one that sits out of picking up a high school kid that may need a year on the bench could work just fine.

A 1 year contract makes you wonder. Although it sounds pretty typical.

Iowa State just released T.J. Otzelberger’s contract. It’s a one-year deal (through June 30, 2016) for $230,000.

Otz for HC?

God, that's such a depressing thought.

Although, I wouldn't think that a 2 year deal would mean anything either. Fred could still leave and TJ could still be named head coach.

1 year deals are standard.

Yeah, I think that if you are trying to get certain guys you might offer 2 years. I think that TJ had a 2 year deal when he signed on to stay at Iowa State with Fred, but I could be wrong.

It also could be one year since the whole thing came together fairly quickly without the usual waiting period for hiring at Iowa State.
