Hit #1 May 11,1991
Stayed on charts for 19 weeks
Don’t hear it too much anymore
-Posting from a break at Jack Johnson concert in Austin

I remember how sick I got of this song back when it was popular. This is one I am glad has been forgotten. For some reason I always hated Roxette.

#1 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of August 19, 1989.

Holy Crap. That 89 Batman movie was so huge. I was 10 and I remember it was probably the first movie I saw multiple times, once in the theater and once at the drive in.

Prince's soundtrack was huge as well. I can understand why this one doesn't get played a lot anymore though.

Yes! Or he could just bugged her on Facebook. (Unless she un-friended him, of course). :)

In the telephone-tech obsolenscence realm, Sylvia's Mother reminds me of "Operator" by Jim Croce. Geez, Jim, just ask Siri how to get her number! :)

Maybe the topic for the next off the record. Songs that have not aged well. Ironically I was listening to Operator in the car the other day and was thinking about how my kids barely know what a phone booth is (Tartis) , and have no idea what an operator is or does.

Another idea I had the other day is best original soundtracks or individual original songs from a movie.

Here's one that I remember from the early '80s...I liked it because it had a brass section during a time when that didn't happen much.

That's a really good song that I don't think I've ever heard before. Groovy and probably out of it's era in the early 80s.

Since we wandered into fiction/satire territory with Robin Sparkles, here's another example.

I can’t locate this song’s chart position (don’t look for it, it’s not there anymore). Regardless, a solid tune that got lost in the mix(er) .... from a band currently residing in the “Where Are They Now?” file.

Looking at Joe Jackson songs and got major flashbacks on this one! Talk about a cool tune that you don't hear much anymore. A much more pop-centric tune than the tune just referenced. I remember if from one of the Grand Theft Auto (Vice City I think) soundtracks from when you would steal a car and have this on the car radio! I'd steal cars just to hear the awesome songs.

Seems like Joe Jackson is just a forgotten artist all together. Here's a third hit from him in an almost completely different style that I forgot about and didn't know it was from the same guy as Steppin Out. More of a rock tune than that pop synth classic.

Holy crap Joe Jackson was a great song writer. How hard would it be to write three huge and awesome hits in basically three different genres?

Sounds like from their early days. Late New Originals or possibly the Thames Men.

Hell, this song is a great Cars-esque rock tune as well. I totally forgot about it as well.

I think I'm a big Joe Jackson fan now!

The first was Is She Really Going Out with Him. Very punkish/new Wave. Was kind of a shock to hear him move into a more classical style jazz direction.

Lots of drunk guys singing that song together is what I remember during that period. So another great topic. Pop songs that are great drunk buddy songs.

I want to know who played trumpet on that track. Nice tone!
